**The successful candidate may be offered a position in either the Legal Secretary or the Senior Legal Secretary classification. The range for the Legal Secretary is $22.58.44 - $25.97 per hour; and for the Senior Legal Secretary is $24.89 – $28.63 per hour.
** The hours for this position are 9:00am - 3:00pm, Monday - Friday.

Summary of Duties: Under basic supervision, the Legal Secretary provides secretarial and administrative duties in direct support of the attorneys in the City Attorney's office.
Distinguishing Characteristics: This is the journey-level classification in the Legal Secretary series. The incumbent follows diversified procedures and implements processes to accomplish end results within established guidelines. Immediate supervision is available upon request. This classification is distinguished from the Legal Secretary, Senior in that the latter performs more complex and technical duties requiring a higher level of autonomy, knowledge, and skill.

******Minimum Qualifications:
****** Knowledge of: Standard administrative office practices and procedures as it relates to an attorney's office; records and file management practices; standard office practices; methods of document and correspondence drafting including spelling, grammar, and punctuation; legal terminology; business communication and etiquette.
Skill in: Operating standard computer software to generate databases, reports, slide presentations, memorandums, templates, and other documents; organizing and prioritizing work with minimal supervision; addressing sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality; demonstrating initiative and resourcefulness in performing duties; communicating effectively verbally and in writing; following complex written and verbal directions; using tact and diplomacy in dealing with individual conducting business with the City Attorney's Office; preparing documents free of punctuation, spelling, and grammatical errors; and multi-tasking.
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience as a legal secretary and progressively responsible administrative experience in a court, municipal department, or legal office.
Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements.
Licenses and Certifications: Must possess aTexas Class C driver's license (must obtain within 30 days of hire per state law). Must possess a Texas Public Notary certification, or have the ability to designation within two (2) months of hire. Must possess a Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunication System (TLETS) Criminal History Operator certification within two (2) months of assignment to the Prosecution Division.
**Senior Legal Secretary
** Summary of Duties: Under general supervision, the Legal Secretary, Senior is responsible for providing administrative support to the City Attorney's Office as well as providing training in policies and procedures and functions of the Legal Department.
Distinguishing Characteristics: This is the advanced journey-level classification in the Legal Secretary series performing more complex tasks and requiring greater autonomy and independent judgement. The incumbent plans detailed methods to attain desired objectives working within established policy. Methods require use of initiative and resourcefulness in developing processes and procedure. Supervision is available for special problems with work reviewed infrequently.

Education: High school graduate or GED, plus the completion of formal administrative and legal training programs related to municipal government and litigation.
Experience: Five (5) years of experience as a legal secretary and progressively responsible administrative experience in a court, municipal department, or legal office.
Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the above Minimum Qualifications is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and experience requirements
Licenses and Certifications: Must possess Texas Class C driver's license (must obtain within 30 days of hire per state law). Must possess a notary public commission or obtain within two (2) months of assignment to position. Must possess a Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunication System (TLETS) Criminal History Operator certification within two (2) months of assignment to the Prosecution Division.
Conditions of Employment: Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, criminal history background check, periodic CJIS background check (for positions in the Prosecution Office) and social security number verification check.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects.
Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions, and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
