Bowditch & Dewey, LLP, has an opening in either its Framingham or Boston office for a mid-level (preferably 2 to 5 years out) Associate in its Employment & Labor Group. Our Employment & Labor group continues to grow and consists of a highly resolute team of employment law specialists representing some of the largest employers in Massachusetts. Chambers USA has recognized our Employment & Labor practice among the most notable in Massachusetts.

The successful candidate must have considerable experience with employment and labor law matters and must be willing to work collaboratively/cross market with members in other practice area groups. Our team-based, client-focused approach to representing our clients is based on the creation of project teams of lawyers (partners and associates), paralegals and staff across practice specialties for each project who work together to provide clients with the best, most comprehensive, seamless representation available. We are looking for a collaborative Associate to join our team.

The successful Associate will have:

Experience

  • Litigating employment cases, including wrongful termination, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and wage and hour matters representing employers, large and small, in employment disputes
  • Taking and defending depositions on often complicated employment and labor matters
  • Providing a business-focused, creative and client- centric, problem-solving mindset with the ability to balance legal risk and business impact
  • Thinking collaboratively to create common sense solutions to complex employment problems
  • Working independently on some matters
  • Maintaining a positive attitude, good listening skills, strong people skills, ambition, self-confidence, and good organizational, communication and writing skills suitable for a client-focused business
  • Reviewing, analyzing, negotiating, and drafting employment contracts, termination agreements, settlement agreements, employment releases, labor contracts, and other employment and labor contracts and related documentation
  • Conceptualizing and articulating pragmatic/creative counseling and advice to clients
  • Analyzing, addressing, and providing legal advice to a cross-functional team of lawyers in all practice areas

Requirements

  • Ability to prioritize
  • Sound legal judgment, initiative, and versatility
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in a wide range of employment and labor law matters, business acumen and dispute resolution
  • Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school
  • Currently licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
