SCOPE:

The Associate General Counsel will be responsible for day-to-day oversight and overview of contracting concerns, legal and regulatory issues, and legal issues related to construction, insurance, safety, and employment.

The Associate General Counsel will be required to perform the following functions: (i) review, monitor, evaluate and resolve all Company insurance claims; (ii) coordinate with insurance brokers/insurance companies to address contractual legal and insurance issues and advise the Company personnel on how to address those issues; (iii) develop, manage and coordinate a contract negotiation and management process using modern technology applications; and (iv) address, negotiation and document business and construction transactions and other legal matters. This individual will report to the General Counsel. The individual will be experienced and understand construction-related incidents and accidents and construction project documentation.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

OPERATIONS · Reports to the General Counsel and performs work as assigned by the General Counsel. · Works closely with the Insurance Risk Committee and Company in creating policies, procedures, and protocols to reduce and otherwise control insurance claims and their associated costs; being responsible for the internal and external insurance claims processes. · Performs legal functions to eliminate and mitigate potential risks and liability of the Company. · Addresses collection matters of the Company. · Implements and oversees contract management.

CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP · Builds and maintains honest and trusting relationships with employees and third parties. · Communicates with all parties involved in any construction-related incident and accident (including those involving employees, insurers, brokers, and outside attorneys). · Communicates with necessary Company personnel to make successful legal and insurance claims’ decisions and outcomes. · Communicates and resolves any legal issues.

EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: · Juris Doctorate (JD) Degree with license in good standing to practice in Illinois. · 3+ years of progressive experience directly related to construction and insurance law. · Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

QUALIFICATIONS and MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES:

· Proven experience in the assessment of legal, business, and regulatory risk. · Excellent legal and business judgment and analytical skills. · Serve as responsible point of contact for the drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of construction related agreements. · Solve complex legal problems using sound, thorough and thoughtful legal analysis, and judgment. · Research and advise on existing and anticipated changes to laws and regulations (including regulations relating to Federal construction projects). · Develop and implement insurance claims program, policies, procedures, and protocols. · Provide legal guidance on all insurance claims. · Communicate with outside attorneys; assist in litigation discovery requests; and build a network of outside attorneys. · Possess working knowledge of Microsoft applications: Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook, etc. · Possess computer and technology skills. · Strong communication, organization, and cognitive skills are essential. Must be able to work in a team environment. · Strong executive presence with the ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) and present to all levels of leadership. · Capable of prioritizing and detail oriented. · Ability to travel as required and work hours outside of standard business hours. · Address, mediate, and resolve company and/or personnel conflicts. · Strong organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously under time constraints and strict deadlines. · Demonstrate ability to think critically and problem-solve under the pressure of time constraints and strict deadlines. · Ability to perform work in unusual and sometimes difficult positions, work in heights such as climbing permanent or temporary stairs and ladders, and able to work in a construction, project setting under construction.
