Idaho Office of the Attorney General - Consumer Protection Division

Salary: $69,400 – $75,000, DOE – Salary is competitive and includes full state employee benefits with 11 paid holidays, accrued vacation and sick leave, compensatory time for work in excess of a 40-hour week, and PERSI retirement, plus options for medical/dental insurance, wellness program, 401k, deferred compensation program and pre-tax flexible spending accounts for qualifying childcare and medical expenses. The office is a qualifying employer for purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF).

Location: Boise, Idaho. As Idaho’s capital, Boise is a growing city of approximately 240,000 and serves as headquarters for several major national and international corporations. Boise offers a rich variety of both cultural and recreational opportunities. Idaho’s world-famous fly-fishing, biking, skiing, kayaking and hiking are all within close proximity.

Primary Duties: This position assists the Deputy Attorneys General assigned to represent the Idaho Department of Insurance in carrying out its duties of regulating the insurance industry, protecting consumers, and enforcing the Idaho Insurance Code.

Primary duties include: Work directly with Deputy Attorneys General on varying tasks and collaborate with various levels of management, staff, client agency, and the public. Proof and edit documents as requested. Review legal referrals by agency staff and draft administrative orders. Conduct legal and other forms of research through Westlaw and additional internet resources. Draft legal documents, to include complaints, orders, briefs, discovery requests/responses, and correspondence. Knowledge of citation format in legal documents. Create, organize, and maintain case files and database systems. Assist agency with statistical reports and coordinate archival of agency dockets. Track administrative penalties. File documents with agency head and courts. Facilitate administrative hearings. Organize evidence for hearings, depositions, etc. Review case filings for procedural compliance and alert attorneys and agency staff to statutory deadlines. Maintain familiarity with the Idaho administrative procedure act; local court rules; civil rules; rules of evidence; and electronic filing rules.

Requirements: Two or more years of experience as a paralegal is preferred. Must be self-motivated and detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Must have willingness and ability to learn new programs and processes and cross-train in other support staff positions. Familiarity with document management software is strongly preferred.
