Love Matters

We are seeking an Employment Counsel to join our growing legal team. As Employment Counsel you will be responsible for providing legal support for the Company's employment compliance efforts. You will partner closely with the People team and other internal stakeholders on a broad range of matters in the employment space to provide expert advice and to develop and implement strategies that promote a legally compliant work environment. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and a passionate commitment to foster a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative culture to deliver high impact legal and business results.

This position will be remote with occasional travel to the Company's Corporate Headquarters based in Stamford, Connecticut.

Summary Of Key Job Responsibilities

  • Advise internal stakeholders on issues related to the Company’s compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations including wage and hour regulations, workplace safety, employee benefits, discrimination and harassment.
  • Proactively monitor changes in applicable federal, state and local employment laws that may impact the Company’s business and operations.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to create policies and procedures that ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and local employment laws.
  • Analyze the Company’s existing employment compliance strategies and identify processes and procedures to move the Company towards best in class compliance.
  • Assist in the development and administration of executive compensation programs and disclosures, including the Compensation Discussion and Analysis in the Company's proxy statement.
  • Draft and amend long- and short-term incentive award plans, benefit plans, employment and equity award agreements, and compensation policies, including severance plans.
  • Address questions and identify compliant, practical business solutions to employment issues that arise from various internal stakeholders.
  • Support the Employee Relations team in investigating and responding to employee complaints, discrimination charges and other employment related disputes.
  • Identify, develop and deliver training programs to educate field and corporate employees on applicable employment laws, compliance requirements and best practices.
  • Manage outside employment counsel and ensure delivery of quality, cost-effective service.
  • Partner with the Assistant General Counsel to manage employment related litigation as needed.
  • Various special projects as needed.
  • Perform any other duties as requested by management.

Qualifications

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Must have a Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and be a member, in good standing, of the Connecticut bar or a bar of another state.
  • Minimum of 6 years of combined experience practicing in employment law at an in-house legal department and at a law firm.
  • Experience working within a high-growth retail environment preferred, but not required.
  • Must have a strong work ethic and enthusiasm for taking on a wide range of projects and responsibilities.
  • Must be proactive, detail oriented, and able to prioritize while handling multiple tasks.
  • Must have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and be capable of navigating complex situations professionally and with empathy.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with cross functional business partners and in a team environment.
  • Experience with the following areas is preferred, but not required: California employment laws, payroll tax, leave administration, internal company investigations and litigation.
  • Must have the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency required in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
  • Must comply with the standards, policies and procedures outlined in the Lovesac Employee Handbook.
  • Must be capable of using and operating all equipment as required, including but not limited to: iPad, laptop, etc. Be able to move objects (including medium to large furniture items up to 75 pounds) from a lower to a higher position or horizontally from position-to-position or be able to assemble furniture while working on the selling floor or in our warehouse.
  • Must be able to travel, as required by the Company in its sole discretion, for occasional one-day or multi-day meetings and conferences using various forms of transportation.
  • Our customers have the opportunity to shop with us seven days a week and select positions may require availability outside of normal weekday hours.
