As Legal Counsel for employment matters, you will be a member of the team that guides SNC through its next level of growth. You'll provide expert representation for us with respect to the full spectrum of employment matters. This includes counseling on process strategy and development, individual employment decisions, and management of employment-related litigation. Additionally, this position offers the opportunity to expand your skillset to other areas of the law, including government contracts, commercial contracts, international contracts, and various professional services, intellectual property, and licensing related agreements.

The location for this position is Sparks, Nevada. Travel requirements are expected to be approximately 10% of total time.

As SNC's corporate team, we provide the company and its business areas with strategic direction and business support spanning executive management, finance and accounting, operations, human resources, legal, IT, information security, facilities, marketing, and communications.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide employment-related counseling to internal customers throughout SNC relating to areas such as employment claims, wage and hour issues, non-compete and non-solicitation agreements, Service Contract Act compliance, high-risk performance management issues, workplace safety, military and medical leaves, and accommodations
  • Partner with the SNC Ethics Committee and other internal stakeholders on internal investigations and other employee-related ethics matters
  • Oversee the management and resolution of employment-related litigation
  • Support audit and compliance activities throughout SNC
  • Provide legal advice, representation and oversight to the Company with respect to legal disputes and litigation
  • Assist in the development and improvement of legal processes
  • Provide practical and actionable legal advice on issues and business concerns to mitigate legal risks and develop solutions
  • Collaborate with the rest of the SNC in-house legal team, our outside counsel, and our internal clients to handle the varied legal questions that arise when you are part of a small in-house legal team
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Compliance Responsibilities:
    • Responsible for timely execution of all personnel-related activities such as time sheet completion, compliance training, annual goals, and self-evaluations
    • Responsible for thoughtful adherence to all SNC Policies, Procedures, and Compliance regulations (internal and external)

What your first 6 months will look like:

  • Focus will be integrating into SNC’s human resources-related processes and developing rapport with the company’s Human Resources Department
  • Work with Legal Department leadership to identify a career development path and training opportunities that will enable the employee to support more general business operations as time permits.

Must-haves:

  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school with at least 5 years of relevant experience in a respected law firm or as in-house counsel
  • Admitted in good standing to practice law in at least one state
  • Significant employment law experience sufficient to enable prompt and independent support on employment-related matters
  • Substantial corporate, commercial, and technology transactional experience and superior contract drafting and negotiating skills
  • Experience and competence in corporate legal issues
  • Ability to proactively identify and mitigate legal risk and develop workable business solutions
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to motivate/work with others
  • Ability to organize projects/tasks and meet established deadlines
  • Ability to work successfully in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment

Preferred:

  • Prior in-house experience counseling on employment matters
  • Prior litigation experience, either as an in-house attorney or at a law firm
  • Experience in commercial transactions, contracts support, and/or supply chain support
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, the US Department of Defense or US Military

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Security Clearance. U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance for employment. Non-U.S. citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Department of Defense Consolidated Adjudications Facility (DoD CAF), a federal government agency, handles the adjudicative aspects of the security clearance eligibility process for industry applicants. Adjudicative factors which affect the outcome of the eligibility determination include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the U.S., foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and illegal drug use.
