Duties

This position starts at a salary of $72,553.00 (GS-11, Step 1) to $113,047.00 (GS-14, Step 10) with promotion potential to $158,860 (GS-14, Step 10). In this position, you will become a key member of the legal team for The Office of The Chief Counsel. Typical work assignments include: Providing legal advice to, and legal representation of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), in matters relating to the activities and functions of CBP; Performing legal research into laws, regulations, decisions, and other precedents bearing on legal issues involving CBP to include Immigration laws (i.e. admissibility at the ports of entry), Enforcement and Operations (i.e. border search), and Customs laws (i.e. importation of merchandise) and; Providing ethics advice, representing CBP in various third party administrative hearings before the EEOC, MSPB, Arbitrators, and Administrative Law Judges, involving matters such as employee discipline, EEO discrimination complaints, contract arbitration, and broker license revocation; Assisting the Department of Justice in actions involving CBP brought before US District Courts and the Court of International Trade by preparing litigation reports, affidavits, and other pleadings, and participating in discovery, motion drafting, and settlement discussions; and Developing and delivering legal training to CBP managers and operators relating to the activities and functions of CBP (i.e. border search and trade enforcement) and legal issues involving CBP employees (i.e. ethics and whistleblower protections).
