San Francisco, California

Grammarly is excited to offer a remote-first hybrid working model. Team members work primarily remotely in the United States, Canada, Ukraine, Germany, or Poland. Certain roles have specific location requirements to facilitate collaboration at a particular Grammarly hub.

All roles have an in-person component: Conditions permitting, teams meet 2–4 weeks every quarter at one of Grammarly’s hubs in San Francisco, Kyiv, New York, Vancouver, and Berlin, or in a workspace in Kraków. This flexible approach gives team members the best of both worlds: plenty of focus time along with in-person collaboration that fosters trust and unlocks creativity.

The intern in this role must be based in the United States, and they must be able to collaborate in person at least once a week in our San Francisco hub.

The opportunity

Grammarly is the world’s leading AI writing assistance company trusted by over 30 million people and 70,000 professional teams every day. From instantly creating a first draft to perfecting every message, Grammarly’s product offerings help people at 96% of the Fortune 500 get their point across—and get results. Grammarly has been profitable for over a decade because we’ve stayed true to our values and built an enterprise-grade product that’s secure, reliable, and helps people do their best work—without selling their data. We’re proud to be one of Inc.’s best workplaces, a Glassdoor Best Place to Work, one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential Companies, and one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies in AI.

We’re looking for a Legal Intern to join our Legal team for approximately three months in summer 2024. The Legal Intern will sit within our agile Product and Privacy team and own projects that will shape strategies around novel AI-related legal questions, helping the business unblock exciting evolutions in our product offerings for individuals and businesses.

We will be accepting applications for this position until February 29th.

Your impact

As Grammarly’s first Product and Privacy Legal Intern, you will help collaborate with our business teams on some of Grammarly’s most complex and impactful legal questions. In this role, you will:

  • Work on at least one end-to-end legal challenge directly related to Grammarly’s high-level goals and priorities.
  • Develop expertise in interesting areas of consumer protection and privacy regulations.
  • Hone your transactional skills with opportunities to analyze policies and negotiate contracts.
  • Partner with dedicated mentors to research, analyze and advise on projects you will own throughout your internship.
  • Collaborate with a friendly team of legal professionals to get exposure to various in-house legal practices, such as product and privacy counseling, enterprise contracting, litigation, intellectual property, employment, and corporate counseling.
  • Leverage your unique point of view to share feedback on legal strategy and risk management.
  • Learn from all the challenges of supporting a product that serves hundreds of millions of users worldwide.

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Embodies our EAGER values—is ethical, adaptable, gritty, empathetic, and remarkable.
  • Is inspired by our MOVE principles, which are the blueprint for how things get done at Grammarly: move fast and learn faster, obsess about creating customer value, value impact over activity, and embrace healthy disagreement rooted in trust.
  • Is able to collaborate in person at least weekly in our San Francisco hub throughout the internship.
  • Brings a problem-solving and detail-oriented approach to their work, a track record of excellent organizational skills, and unfailing follow-up to effectively manage multiple activities of varying difficulty, priority, and complexity.
  • Demonstrates the ability to independently move projects forward by gaining support from others while working in a cross-functional role.
  • Brings an entrepreneurial drive and comfort working in ambiguous, quickly changing environments.
  • Has a strong sense of accountability and integrity, taking ownership of projects and responsibilities and resolving issues proactively.
  • Is a great communicator and has a service mindset that empowers others to hit their goals.
  • Is a current 1L with a demonstrated interest in technology law and/or policy.

Our remote-first hybrid model enables a highly collaborative culture supported by our EAGER (ethical, adaptable, gritty, empathetic, and remarkable) values. We work to foster belonging among team members in a variety of ways. This includes our employee resource groups, Grammarly Circles, which promote connection among those with shared identities, such as BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ team members, women, and parents.
