Aon is seeking Senior Counsel candidates that are collaborative, forward-thinking, and looking for a role that supports our growing business. Ideal candidates will have experience in reinsurance (including reinsurance transactions, regulations, disputes, and/or broking arrangements) and general commercial contracting. Provide legal counsel across North America for Aon’s Reinsurance Solutions, including its reinsurance broking, capital markets, data and analytics, and consulting businesses!

What the day will look like:

The successful candidate must have strong commercial legal experience and be able to provide expert legal counsel to the business by fulfilling the following responsibilities:

Structure, negotiate and draft contracts for complex commercial arrangements, including service and compensation agreements with clients, technology license agreements, and contracts with vendors, strategic partners and other third parties.  Interpret and provide insight on regulatory regimes applicable to brokers and other services providers in the insurance and reinsurance industry.

Serve as a strategic partner to business teams as they develop new service offerings, obtain, or expand client engagements, respond to legal and regulatory changes, and resolve contractual issues – all of which require collaboration with business colleagues across our management, broking, client services, and operations teams.

Work in partnership with Aon Law & Compliance department colleagues and business leaders to support, and in some cases lead, critical initiatives related to new products or services, risk mitigation, and process improvements.

Collaborate with a diverse team of Law & Compliance professionals to advise on a wide variety of transactional, regulatory, and litigation matters arising from Aon’s Reinsurance Solutions business and other Aon United solutions in North America.

Skills and experience that will lead to success:

  • 8 or more years within a law firm or in-house legal position
  • Experience structuring, negotiating, and drafting contracts for commercial arrangements.
  • Experience in insurance, reinsurance, and/or other related financial services industries, along with the regulatory regimes related to those industries.
  • D. from an accredited U.S. law school and a current license to practice law.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
  • High level of self-direction and demonstration of good judgment.
  • Ability to create and deliver practical solutions that appropriately balance commercial objectives and legal risks.
  • Versatility to lead projects and implement transactions over a range of business areas and functions with differing issues, requirements, and risks.
  • Ability to simultaneously balance multiple time-sensitive projects and important relationships.

The salary range for this position is $170k to $190k annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant’s geographic location. This position is eligible to participate in one of Aon’s annual incentive plans. The amount of the incentive varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
