What You'll Do

The Principal Financial Group is seeking a Director, Compliance to help lead in our Corporate Ethics and Compliance area! As the Director, Compliance you’ll advise, develop, manage a team, and assist the Chief Compliance Officer in compliance standards for the SCBU and ensure operations meet legal and regulatory requirements.

In addition:

  • Provide key assistance to CCO in oversight of compliance program to maintain compliance with state and federal requirements, including oversight of systems and development of programs to ensure they align with current laws.
  • Lead, strategize, and provide oversight, management, and subject matter expertise for projects including initiatives associated with training, ethics surveys, ethics awareness, and The World’s Most Ethical Companies Annual application.
  • Collaborate on projects with business partners/leaders in other areas to promote communications, training, and the overall Ethics and Compliance Program. 
  • Provide strategic feedback to optimize our Ethics and Compliance Program. 
  • Be responsible for initiatives to develop and implement employee communication and training promoting the Code, Principals core values, and an ethical workplace culture.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement necessary changes to address weaknesses in the compliance program. Conduct benchmarking reviews to identify industry trends and innovative ways for improving our Compliance programs.
  • Direct, develop and empower staff through selection, training, mentor, performance review, and salary administration.
  • Provide technical advice and serve as SME across multiple BUs and SCBUs.
  • Perform other job duties and special projects as the need arises.

Who You Are

    • Bachelors degree with 8+ years of experience required; compliance, risk, ethics. JD or MBA considered in lieu of some experience
    • Advanced risk assessment, analytical, interpersonal, research, decision making/organizational skills, and the ability to leverage data.
    • Must be able to understand often technically sophisticated federal and/or state laws
    • Broad knowledge of the Ethics and Compliance program, and experience with drafting compliance documentation including policies, standards, and procedures
    • Excellent interpersonal, analytical/problem solving, presentation, written and oral communication skills
    • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality

Salary Range InformationSalary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)$137000 - $185000 / yearTime Off ProgramFlexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.Additional Information

Work Environments

This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, or Charlotte, NC). You’ll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
