About The Role We are seeking a dynamic and innovative General Counsel to lead our legal function. The ideal candidate will bring an extensive knowledge in the legal field with a passion for building and leading teams with integrity. Reporting to the CEO, this role will be responsible for creating Knighted’s legal strategy and will work closely with the executive team to drive compliance and success across Knighted’s core companies.

You’ll be Responsible For

  • Inspiring confidence throughout the organization by consistently providing sound, practical legal advice and solutions to complex issues in a timely and understandable manner
  • Establishing, developing, and refining our corporate governance program while working closely with cross-functional partners across the company
  • Managing day-to-day employment and labor-related matters, such as employee relations issues, policy development, and employee benefit plan compliance
  • Developing and recommending company positions on legal issues to establish an overall organizational legal risk strategy, including business contract negotiation, management and renewals
  • Engaging with key industry figures and legislators. Help to manage political relationships and lobbying efforts that positively impact the current and future state of our industry and business
  • Conducting legislative and policy research to determine the potential impact on industry and company with a focus on legislation, federal, state, local, and international grants
  • Championing a commitment to honesty, integrity, and responsible corporate behavior by fostering a compliance culture within the organization where employees feel comfortable reporting potential violations or misconduct
  • Providing litigation support, management, and compliance with corporate formalities and associated obligations; provide full legal support to all business units in managing their legal risks with regard to contract administration and capital project planning
  • Crafting strategic and proactive legal advice and counseling in one or more specialized areas of law, which may include, without limitation, complex commercial litigation, including class actions, and labor and employment litigation, including e-discovery, written discovery and review of motion practice
  • Structuring, negotiating, and managing complex, business-critical partnerships. Contribute to fast-paced projects across core companies as needed

Who You Are

  • Successful track record of at least 10-15 years of experience providing legal advice on relevant areas of the law (e.g., corporate, privacy, regulatory, litigation, contracts, et al) at a law firm or in-house corporate law department. Ideally, the candidate will possess a combination of law firm and in-house experience
  • Some experience in understanding and providing counsel on foundational employment law regulations, and experience with, or ability to, manage relationships and retain counsel from external employment law firms as needed
  • Member in good standing of the California bar
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as relationship building skills to collaborate with and influence all relevant stakeholders, both internal and external
  • Strong independent judgment, problem-solving, critical, and analytical thinking skills, including a “moral compass” and high integrity required
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, to multitask, and to deliver a high-quality work product in a highly regulated, demanding, and constantly changing corporate environment required
