Job Summary

The Litigation Paralegal will report to the Associate General Counsel - Litigation and be responsible for supporting a varied and complex litigation docket, including, but not limited to, personal injury, property damage, labor and employment, intellectual property, land and right-of-way, and environmental matters. The Litigation Paralegal will work closely with CenterPoint Energy’s in-house litigation attorneys to provide paralegal services to CenterPoint Energy, its subsidiaries, and its affiliates.

Essential Functions

  • Support litigation attorneys on a varied and complex litigation docket, including, but not limited to, personal injury, property damage, labor and employment, intellectual property, land and right-of-way, and environmental matters.
  • Manage the intake and opening of new matters.
  • Support the litigation team in issuing and monitoring legal holds.
  • Supervise litigation clerk.
  • Manage subpoena responses.
  • Collaborate with internal and external legal teams to manage document preservation, collection, and production.
  • Conduct legal research and perform other administrative and clerical tasks as assigned.
  • Contribute analysis and develop solutions for the litigation team.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, eDiscovery vendor, and outside counsel to resolve a variety of issues relating to litigation support.
  • Prepare various reports regarding litigation docket.
  • Ensure efficient application of Legal Department tools, processes, and policies through matter management.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain high-quality performance with competing deadlines.
  • Able to motivate self to accomplish projects and achieve goals with minimal supervision in a fast-paced setting, including self-directed learning.
  • Able to exercise discretion, tact, and good judgment; maintain a courteous, professional, and personable demeanor; and build positive internal and external relationships.
  • Able to listen effectively and clarify information as needed.
  • Able to express opinions effectively and convey information in an appropriate manner.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of tools.
  • Ability to learn and work with legal matter management systems and other programs and software relevant to job.

Education Description

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED
  • College degree or paralegal certificate preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a paralegal required
