PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

A senior lawyer who is a highly qualified attorney handling complex legal matters and projects on behalf of the Company.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Performs as a specialist in state electric utility regulatory and administrative law, primarily in New Jersey, provides technical and expert legal services to Pepco Holdings, LLC (PHI) and has strong comprehension of the electric utility businesses.
  • Under minimal supervision, plans, conducts and supervises complex legal assignments, requiring an ability to evaluate matters that may have a major bearing on conducting the Company’s business; evaluates legal and business risks and advises clients accordingly.
  • Interprets and applies organization policy according to law.
  • Represents PHI in agency proceedings and/or relevant litigation, primarily in New Jersey.
  • Prepares, and revises as necessary, budgets and early matter assessments for all matters involving outside counsel.
  • Projects / duties as assigned.
  • Provides lead direction and/or project leadership direction to less experienced attorneys and support staff.


JOB SCOPE

  • Supports more senior attorneys in the ongoing management of relationships and matters with Exelon Operating Companies/Business Units and outside counsel.
  • Manages relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates superior legal judgment in the business context.
  • Demonstrates innovation; generates new ideas and devises original and successful solutions, programs or actions.

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • An LLB or JD from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in New Jersey.
  • At least 5-8 years of relevant professional experience
  • Possesses and applies a comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices and procedures relevant to the complex operation and success of a utility regulatory practice
  • Requires excellent legal research, analytical abilities, and an ongoing knowledge of federal or state law
  • Must have the ability to communicate clearly – both orally and in writing; to read and analyze legal materials and other data; to work in high pressure conditions under time deadlines

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

At least 7 years of legal experience in State regulatory electric utility matters and practice before a state public service commission
