Job Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions of this job position include but are not limited to, the following tasks and duties an employee encounters while performing this job. As a Compliance Attorney focused on Employment Law issues, you will serve as the primary subject matter expert for ongoing day-to-day advice and guidance on employment disputes and inquiries on an international scale within our organization. You will collaborate closely with Human Resources (HR) and Litigation to ensure compliance with policy/regulatory standards, mitigate legal risks, and uphold fair and equitable employment practices. Your responsibilities will encompass analyzing, drafting, and reviewing employee-related agreements, policies, and programs, managing internal investigations, overseeing global HR compliance initiatives, and providing legal counsel on a wide range of employment matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary advisor and subject matter expert on employment-related inquiries, disputes, and compliance matters for an organization comprising over 14,000 employees worldwide
  • Collaborate with HR on issues related to policy/regulatory compliance, wage and hour laws, benefits, unemployment, terminations, disciplines, restructures, hiring processes, and related matters, ensuring adherence to applicable laws and regulations
  • Analyze, draft, and review employee-related agreements, policies, and programs, including Workplace Harassment, Internal Investigations, Contingent Workers, Use of Social Media, Internal Document Retention, and use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Streamline processes for reviewing requests pertaining to leaves, accommodations, and separations, ensuring strict compliance with evolving legal standards such as the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act and provisions for religious accommodations
  • Supervise outside counsel on litigation matters and advisory services, ensuring effective management and resolution of legal disputes and cost-effective legal advice
  • Provide advice and direction to the global HR Internal Investigation Team, managing the internal investigations hotline, advising on all incoming internal and field investigations, conducting high-risk investigations, and providing comprehensive investigation reports and statistical reporting
  • Oversee a "Second Chance Committee" to evaluate candidate applications in adherence to ban-the-box legislation, ensuring equitable hiring practices
  • Provide legal counsel on international employment matters, including emerging laws, contract reviews, and other employment concerns
  • Maintain a robust compliance program for Federal contracting in compliance with OFCCP requirements, encompassing recruitment policies, contractual clauses, contract review processes, and reporting protocols
  • Implement company-wide training programs on topics including Preventing Workplace Harassment, ADA and FMLA compliance, Ethical Conduct, Conflicts of Interest, and Anti-Bribery and Corruption
  • Review job descriptions to ensure compliance with state and federal laws
  • Ensure compliance with accessibility laws, including ADA, FMLA, and website compliance (WCAG)
  • Deliver in-house legal expertise and responses to EEOC and other administrative agency complaints
  • Conduct meticulous reviews of internal contracts to ensure adherence to compliance mandates, including affirmative action, drug testing, and background check prerequisites
  • Provide additional legal support to the Chief Compliance Officer with other matters as they arise
Skills, Experience and Requirements

Education and Experience:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience practicing employment law, preferably in a corporate environment
  • Extensive knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations, and some exposure to international employment laws and regulations
  • Strong analytical, drafting, and negotiation skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including HR, Legal, Compliance, and senior leadership

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Read and interpret documents such as pleadings, contracts, operating/maintenance/procedure instructions, and safety rules 
  • Write legal memos, letters, and documents
  • Speak effectively before customers or employees of the organization whether individually or in groups
  • Operate efficiently between multiple computer applications
  • Effectively interact with all levels of organizational staff and company personnel 
  • Excellent presentation/facilitation, organizational, analytical, interpersonal, written/oral communication, and customer service skills

Work Environment: 

  • While performing the duties and essential functions of this job, the employee is exposed to computer equipment and noise levels of a typical office environment, with the requisite level of noise associated with 50 or more employees working in the same physical location

Salary Ranges

Compensation: $154,275.00/Year - $208,725.00/Year

The base pay range shown is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, and competencies; compensation is based on the role's location and is subject to change based on work location. Candidates need to successfully complete a pre-employment screen, which may include a drug test and DMV check.

The posting will be active for a minimum of 3 days. The active posting will continue to extend by 3 days until the position is filled.
