Sherwin-Williams is seeking a Legal Operations Manager to play a key role in the implementation of operational excellence and other strategic initiatives throughout its dynamic global Legal Department. Reporting directly to a Senior Vice President, Chief Counsel this role will help build and enhance the Department’s operational culture, strategy, and performance. The Legal Operations Manager will be responsible for identifying, designing, and implementing process improvements and technology solutions to include the Department’s financial, vendor, and information management systems. The individual in this position will have strong organizational and project management skills, be data driven and a strategic problem solver with the ability to negotiate compromises and to drive results. This role requires excellent communication, management, and interpersonal skills. The Legal Operations Manager will lead and support change at all levels, including to build relationships and regularly to collaborate with vendors, executives, in-house attorneys, support staff and other key stakeholders within the Company, particularly Finance and IT.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities:
- Work with leadership to optimize and manage the Legal Department’s financial processes, including budgeting and forecasting, financial reporting and analysis, expense administration, e-billing, and matter management.
- Own and optimize the Department’s e-billing activity. Work with the Legal team, business teams and vendors to enhance data analytics and reporting capabilities to improve decision-making.
- Own and enhance processes related to sourcing and vendor management, including activities such as contract renewals, law firm conflict waivers, working with attorneys to prepare and review requests for proposal (RFPs), vendor due diligence, new vendor setup, and implementing enhanced billing and matter management policies.
- Work with leadership to analyze other existing processes and recommend best practices, identify opportunities for improving services to the business, streamline collaboration, create and automate workflows, and contribute to the accuracy and efficacy of Department data.
- Facilitate centralized management and leveraged use of the Department’s institutional knowledge. Organize and create standard operating procedures. Coordinate the drafting of internal guides, resources, and form documents. Create useful resources and trainings related to Department systems and processes.
- Stay current on best practices in Legal Department operations. L ead and support change management efforts related to specific functional areas as well as larger Departmental goals. E ducate, encourage innovation, and influence change. Foster a culture of sharing.
- Coordinate processes and support for the hiring and onboarding of new employees, and processes for employee departures.
- Support continuous improvement of the Department’s performance management process.
- Manage the Department’s physical facilities, including to serve as primary liaison with building services for office space planning, business continuity, and emergency response plans. Coordinate administrative support staff to ensure maintenance of office space and timely acquisition and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
- Provide direction and leadership regarding coordination of administrative support activities to the Department.
- Support the culture of the team by managing Department events and activities.
- Manage other assigned matters to maximize efficiency, with a focus on planning, monitoring, and reporting.

- Bachelor’s Degree (from an accredited institution, college or university).

- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree (from an accredited institution, college or university) in Business, Finance, Information Technology, Management, or other relevant areas.
- Incumbent may have a J.D. It is not required, and this position is not a practicing attorney.
- Six Sigma certification
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
_Required:
_
- 5-7 years of relevant legal operations or program/project management experience. This experience ideally will have involved managing office personnel and operational functions and activities of a professional workforce including technology, processes and policies.
- Experience with business process management and improvement (including cross-functional).
- Experience developing metrics as well as managing and reporting data and financials for teams.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills paired with the capability to adapt and to find solutions.
- Strategic mindset and ability to develop and achieve long-term goals.
_Preferred:
_
- 5-10 years of administering or managing operational activities, systems, technology, personnel, etc. of a law firm or corporate legal department or other directly relevant experience.
- Experience with data analytics, including familiarity with data manipulation and visualization.
- Experience leading successful change management and developing and deploying workflow and task management tools and platforms.
- Experience with legal technology tools
TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
- Strong general computer skills.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Teams, PowerPoint, Excel and Word).
- Proficiency with software applications used by law firms and legal departments for activities such as e-billing, matter management, document management, collaboration / communication, etc.
Preferred :
- Proficiency with budgeting and other finance management software applications.
- Strong and demonstrable project management skills related to assessment and implementation of processes and systems (including technology) for a professional organization (preferably with international operations).
