We are currently seeking an Associate Counsel - Content Sales to join our Legal and Business Affairs team based in our New York, New York Headquarters.

Job Summary

The Associate Counsel will provide legal support to the Content Sales business within AMC Networks Inc. whose primary function is the licensing of AMC’s programming throughout the world. The Associate Counsel will primarily negotiate and draft program licenses for the distribution and exhibition of television and film programming via a wide variety of media outlets, including pay television and broadcast networks, streaming services, download-to-own and other forms of media consumption. The role will also provide legal support for any other activities related to the content sales business, including working with third-party vendors and dubbing houses and providing legal counsel on the interpretation of existing agreements.

JOB RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Draft content distribution agreements (i.e., “licensing out”) to support the content sales business of AMC Networks Inc. through AMC Studios International and associated brands.
  • Assist the operations team with NDAs, language access agreements, agreements with language houses and any other agreements needed for the delivery of content.
  • Counsel stakeholders at the business unit regarding interpretation of contractual rights and other legal issues related to content licensing agreements, vendor agreements, and other contracts as necessary.
  • Research and summarize contractual rights in connection with the above as needed on a project-specific basis.
  • Assist in continually revising and improving basic form agreements.
  • Assist in providing day-to-day business and legal support to busy BA team, and Content Distribution business unit as well as other connected business units as needed.
  • Liaising with other AMC departments where necessary, including Marketing, Tax, Finance, HR.

QUALIFICATIONS (Required & Preferred)

  • J.D. and strong academic credentials required
  • 2 - 5 years of relevant work experience or general corporate, litigation and/or IP work at a law firm
  • Member of NY Bar in good standing
  • Familiarity with Intellectual Property transactional work or content licensing is a plus
  • Highly motivated with a passion for learning
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, demanding environment
  • Excellent communication, drafting, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Even-keeled temperament suitable for long negotiation cycles
  • Ability to work across time zones and outside of normal business hours as required.
  • Used to working in a multinational company and an international environment

The base compensation range for this position is $120,000 to $135,000 commensurate with experience.
