Job Summary
Under general direction and with a high level of autonomy, uses extensive knowledge and skills obtained through education and experience to manage legal matters that involve labor and employment law-related issues in the Employment Law Group to support partners across the organization. Monitor legislation, regulations, case law, and government enforcement activities on a broad range of employment legal matters, and provide proactive, strategic advice to the assigned functional area(s). Provide pragmatic and scalable advice on a broad range of employment matters, including recruiting, hiring, leave and accommodation management, benefits, employee relations, restrictive covenants, discipline, wage and hour, contingent workforce, diversity, and job restructuring. May lead major projects, programs or processes that have significant business impact and involve cross-functional teams. Influences strategic direction, develops tactical plans, and completes complex assignments with substantial latitude for unreviewed actions or decisions. Provides comprehensive solutions to complex problems or needs. End results are evaluated for achieving goals and objectives. Maintains extensive contact with internal customers, Senior Management, and outside counsel to identify, research, analyze and resolve complex legal issues with significant impact.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Provides advice, counsel and support to the assigned functional area(s), and recommendations to Senior Management on corporate action.
- Oversees and manages outside counsel in activities associated with the assigned functional area(s).
- Partner, advise, and collaborate with other employment lawyers, the broader legal team, and key teams and stakeholders across the organization on relevant matters/issues.
- Performs human resource management activities that include identifying performance problems, approving recommendations for remedial action, evaluating performance, and interviewing Legal department staff.
- Plans, assigns, monitors, reviews, evaluates the work of Legal department staff.
- Coaches and mentors others, including providing guidance and direction to Legal department staff by developing continuing education programs and career development opportunities.
- Interprets, applies, and recommends changes to organizational policies and procedures.
- Reviews progress of assignments with Senior Management.
- Balances conflicting resource and priority demands.
- Manages all legal matters that involve the assigned functional area(s). Keeps management apprised of developments.
- Determines the allocation of legal reserves when applicable.
- Oversees the maintenance of case status reports, if applicable.
- Assists others in developing, preparing, and presenting case theories and strategies.
- Prepares and delivers written and oral presentations to Senior Management on legal issues.
- Maintains currency in corporate and financial securities regulatory law and advises the organization with respect to the current or proposed rules and regulations.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:

Knowledge of
- Advanced concepts, principles and practices of laws and regulations related to assigned functional areas, including US labor and employment laws.
- Advanced concepts on global Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion matters.
- Counseling on, or litigation related to, recruiting/relocation programs and/or immigration compliance, and/or other employment-related compliance.
Skill in
- Communication, interpersonal skills, and experience in quickly building trust with team members and influence cross-functional partners.
- Managing a large volume of complex corporate legal matters.
- Developing, preparing, and presenting case theories and strategies, if applicable.
- Preparing and delivering written and oral presentations on legal issues to associates of all levels.
- Operating standard office equipment and using required software applications, including legal case management software and Microsoft office.

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements
Education/Previous Experience
- Juris Doctorate (J.D.) with excellent academic credentials and a minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in the relevant practice area(s) (law firm, regulator or self-regulatory organization, and/or in-house in a related area involving financial services industry preferred).
- OR ~
- Any equivalent combination of experience, education, and/or training approved by Human Resources.
Licenses/Certifications
- Member in good standing in at least one state bar; and
- Ability to obtain Florida Authorized House Counsel, if not a member of the Florida bar.
