Posted Sep 25 This position will manage and oversee a team of coverage attorneys and will provide opinions and advice to internal business partners. This person will work with team members to set clear goals, provide feedback, perform performance assessments, and support on-going development. This individual will participate in legal strategy and should have experience with analysis of bad faith matters.
In this primarily home-based role, you will spend 80% of your
time (4+ days per week) working from home, proximate to one of
our office locations (within approximately 35-50 miles). On
occasion you may be asked to travel to an office location for in
person engagement activities such as team meetings, trainings,
and culture events.

Compensation may vary based on the job level and your geographic work location. _Relocation support is offered for eligible candidates.
_ Primary Accountabilities
- Develop and oversee comprehensive legal strategy for insurance coverage cases; review work from attorneys on coverage team, including opinions, memos, motions, and case strategy recommendations; assess risk and provide reasoned advice and analysis on coverage issues, policy interpretations, and potential outcomes.
- Resource, select, negotiate, and contract with outside counsel and other vendors for coverage matters.
- Oversee staff’s analysis and work on coverage matters for threatened litigation or litigation against insureds and the company. Further ensure and oversee prompt advice from attorneys on legal issues to business partners/clients.
- Oversee and manage communications with business partners and clients ensuring that expectations are met; develop relationships with business partners and ensure timely and thorough reporting of outcomes, risks, and strategies.
- Set and build expectations around knowledge of and adherence to relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards; develop process around trend analysis, identifying emerging issues, and risk assessment.
- Manage budgets for outside counsel and team to ensure cost-effective legal solutions; build on and develop process improvement protocols; lead through innovation and adoption of new methods and technologies.
- Make recommendations about whether declaratory relief matters will be initiated and resolved and grants settlement authority as appropriate.
- Create a collaborative, performance-driven work environment by facilitating and fostering trust, transparency, and inclusion. Work with team members to set clear goals, provide feedback, perform performance assessments, and support on-going development.

Specialized Knowledge & Skills Requirements
- Demonstrated effective leadership skills.
- Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service.
- Demonstrated civil trial experience.
- Demonstrated experience dealing with issues related to (i) tort law, (ii) litigation practice, and (iii) property and casualty insurance contracts, law and regulation.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of rules of Professional Responsibility for the jurisdiction in which they practice.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of tort, contract, and insurance law.
- Admitted to the state bar in the state where they are located or (1) admission to the bar within one year of hire for individuals who must pass a bar exam or portions of a bar exam to be admitted or (2) bar admission as soon as practicable but no later than 60 days of hire for individuals with diploma privilege or who are eligible for in-house counsel registration.
- Juris Doctor
Additional Knowledge & Skills
- Demonstrated coverage experience.
- Declaratory relief experience is helpful.
- Demonstrated experience analyzing data and developing insights and strategies in response to that analysis.
