Summary

Perform legal review and advise on various matters within the relevant legal area, such as Corporate, Litigation or Regulatory. In particular, experience in dealing with highly complex legal matters is required.

The Legal Department’s goal is to provide and secure timely, quality and cost-effective legal services to help the Company meet its business objectives. The department’s focus is to ensure that the Company’s best interests are being met by providing practical advice and assistance to the business units with respect to understanding and complying with laws, rules and regulations applicable to the Company’s businesses.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Directly or through others:

Perform legal review and advise on various matters within the relevant legal area, such as Corporate, Litigation or Regulatory. In particular, experience in dealing with highly complex legal matters is required. Provide legal counsel, risk analysis and support to assigned business personnel on a variety of legal matters. If assigned, be responsible for managing a substantive subject matter area of the Company's legal affairs. Supervise the Company’s outside counsel and provide guidance to such counsel with respect to the Company’s strategies, policies and objectives. May review primary legal authority, legal publications, and pending legislation and advise management regarding risk analysis and general exposure to the laws in order to support assigned business personnel on a variety of legal matters. Review the bills submitted by outside counsel to ensure the Company is receiving cost-effective services. May work under the direction of an Associate General Counsel and perform other duties as required. May oversee and provide leadership and direction to internal legal Counsel.

Education, Experience, & Skills

Juris Doctorate and membership in the Bar of at least one state.8+ years of substantial legal experience in a well-established law firm and/or corporate legal department. Typically 10+ years is preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills; acute attention to detail. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including diplomacy and flexibility, and the ability to interface effectively with personnel at many different levels throughout the company.
