Who We Need:
We are seeking an experienced attorney to join Malwarebytes legal team. As Associate General Counsel you will play a crucial role in navigating the legal issues surrounding our products and supporting our business initiatives globally. You will provide legal support for Malwarebytes corporate and consumer product business lines.
This role requires a driven attorney with a proven track record of drafting and negotiating agreements related to technology licensing, data privacy, and commercial transactions. The right candidate will have experience providing pragmatic guidance and direction to product, engineering, and marketing teams to ensure products and processes comply with applicable laws (data privacy, autorenewal, advertising etc). To thrive in this role, you will operate independently in a fast-paced, small, but growing environment and will actively work with various teams across Malwarebytes. This role will involve extensive cross-functional work across functions such as Sales, Channel, Accounting, Product, Engineering, and Customer Support.
What You’ll Do:
- Structure, draft, and negotiate a wide range of agreements, including SaaS subscription agreements, software licenses, technology partnerships, IP licensing, and data processing agreements.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including data privacy and security requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
- Develop and maintain template agreements for efficient and consistent contract management.
- Build scalable processes
- Advise on technology-related regulatory and compliance issues.
- Data Privacy and Security:
- Stay abreast of evolving data privacy laws and regulations.
- Ensure contractual arrangements adequately address data privacy and security risks.
- Assist in developing and implementing data privacy policies and procedures.
- Educate and partner with cross-functional teams (e.g., product, engineering, sales) to address legal issues and mitigate risks.
- Stay updated on legal and industry developments relevant to the company's business.
- Provide general legal support
Skills You’ll Need to Have:
- Attorney with 6+ years of relevant experience with a law firm and/or in-house within the tech sector
- Understanding of software, SaaS, and technology
- Strong negotiation skills and excellent drafting ability complemented with excellent business judgment and strategic thought
- Solid knowledge of business process gained in-house relating to commercial, contract, intellectual property, and data privacy law
- CIPP, CIPM, or other privacy or security certification strongly preferred
- Experience managing workload in a high-pressure environment with competing demands
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills with a consistent record of building relationships
- Strong organizational, coordination, and multi-tasking skills
- Sense of humor
