Job Title: Associate Corporate Counsel
Reports To: General Counsel
Job Summary: Associate Corporate Counsel to General Counsel is responsible for providing legal advice and services in support of management of legal matters. These duties may be performed either collaboratively or independently, in an environment requiring the use of good judgment, initiative, discretion, and confidentiality.
Hours Required: 40-45
Major Responsibilities
- General knowledge of a broad range of legal disciplines and able to efficiently conduct thorough legal research.
- Responsible for a wide range of legal services as assigned by General Counsel on a variety of legal matter disciplines.
- Review, negotiate and prepare agreements and legal documents across many legal disciplines.
- Advise departments and management on legal strategies, issues and risk management.
- Responsible for anticipating and mitigating legal problems and work to achieve resolution of claims and disputes, while simultaneously developing an understanding of company operations and departmental responsibilities.
- Responsible for all transactional matters, including but not limited to agreement preparation, review of contractual obligations and providing legal opinions relating thereto.Also, summarize contractual matters and departmental obligations, with reports provided to General Counsel and applicable departments. Support business contractual negotiations and address legal issues as they arise and participate directly in negotiations as needed.
- Serve as liaison between company and outside counsel regarding negotiations and oversee resolutions of pending disputes, litigation, and all other legal matters.
- Work cooperatively with others across multiple departments and company locations.
- Ensure corporate goals and objectives are achieved according to standards, rules, regulations and laws.
- Manage large workloads and meet deadlines.
- Maintain efficient workflow while experiencing frequent interruptions.
- Assist with coordination and monitoring of activities of outside counsel.
- Conduct legal research on a variety of topics.
- Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and other educational endeavors.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience and Skills Required
- Juris Doctor Degree and licensed in the State of Michigan.
- 3-5 years’ experience as an attorney (preferably in a corporate environment, with experience of employment law matters and/or regulatory compliance matters preferred).
- Ability to efficiently manage multiple matters, across multiple jurisdictions.
- Excellent verbal and written skills.
- Excellent communication and listening skills.
- Detail orientated and highly organized.
- Ability to work independently, manage large workloads, and keep deadlines.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, such as Word, Excel and Power Point required.
- Knowledge of case management software and online research tools.

- Long periods of work that primarily involve sitting
- Light travel may be required
- Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds
