Position: Counsel Real Estate Location : Remote

About Legal at Sephora : Sephora’s Legal team is seeking a creative, agile, and diligent attorney to join the Real Estate Legal Team as a Counsel, Real Estate. As an integral member of the Legal Department, this role will help in implementing and ensuring compliance with Sephora’s legal requirements. The position will report to the Vice President, Real Estate Legal/Ethics and Compliance. In addition, you will:

Your role at Sephora :

  • Work with internal clients on business initiatives, lease modifications, renewals, amendments and general real estate work. Expert in real estate law and makes decisions with minimal oversight for non-routine issues and exercises discretion guided by leadership objectives.
  • Be the primary contact for lease compliance issues for our business partners, including the stores and distribution center. Interacts cross-functionally and build strong relationships through trust and decision making.
  • Handle new leases as appropriate with expert analysis of situations and data to exercise clear judgement for obtaining results and making improvements for business outcomes.
  • Support store growth initiative and expansion; assist in managing company compliance with relevant real estate and environmental laws, including implementation of new requirements; help triage and respond to real estate legal requests; assist with dispute and litigation response; help develop and deliver presentations and materials for ongoing projects
  • Be responsible for legal issues relating to estoppel certificates and Subordination Non-Disturbance and Attornment Agreement
  • Assist in the development and implementation of processes; maintain and improve processes and workflows; support maintenance of various policies.
  • Advise the business in assessing and responding to issues related to store, construction and maintenance; advance a positive spirit of solution-oriented partnership and collaboration with internal clients, internal legal colleagues, and outside counsel.
  • Work with our lease compliance team to respond to requests.
  • Help foster a culture of teamwork.

We’re excited about you if you have:

  • 5 years’ real estate law experience;
  • Strong academic credentials and training at a major national law firm; in-house experience a plus;
  • California bar membership or other bar membership;
  • Approachable attitude and patience with internal clients; good communication skills a must, with passion for providing excellent customer service;
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, effectively prioritize multiple projects simultaneously under time-sensitive deadlines, and adapt quickly to changing priorities;
  • Strong project management skills with an emphasis on being detail-oriented and organized;
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with cross-functional teams;
  • Enthusiasm for taking on new and additional responsibilities as business and team needs evolve; and
  • Passion for continuous learning and professional development, with flexibility and willingness to dive into any projects requiring support
