As an Attorney - Casualty Litigation , you will lead strategies for complex general liability, product liability, consumer complaints, and asbestos claims, managing pre-litigation disputes and resolving litigated claims with cross-functional partners. You will also develop cost-containment programs and tools, working closely with our Risk Management Department and third-party administrator (TPA). Additionally, you will provide legal advice to the Commercial Credit team on contract and collections issues.
This role reports to the Manager, Litigation/Attorney - Casualty within the Legal Department.
- Manage and Resolve Claims: Actively manage and successfully resolve a busy portfolio of casualty, product liability, and asbestos claims.
- Supervise Outside Counsel: Select, retain, and supervise outside counsel, coordinating with law firms to manage budgets and control costs.
- Strategic Legal Partner: Serve as a strategic legal partner to the business, providing advice on business practices, risk avoidance/mitigation, and legal compliance. Provide timely reports on substantive developments in legal matters.
- Develop Claims Strategy: Develop strategies and action plans for claims in collaboration with internal/external counsel, TPAs, and insurance companies.
- Oversee Discovery Process: Oversee all aspects of the internal discovery process, including reviewing and developing strategies for discovery requests and responses, collecting and producing internal documents, coordinating e-discovery, identifying and interviewing witnesses, and preparing key witness testimony.
- Collaborate with Team: Partner with the team’s paralegals and other attorneys to successfully manage litigation and other projects as needed.
- Mediation and Settlement: Develop and attend mediation and settlement strategies in conjunction with internal/external legal partners, insurance companies, and TPAs.
- Support Business Partners: Address ongoing questions and issues from business partners through claims resolution.
- Lead Special Projects: Lead special projects within the Legal Department to drive efficiencies, contribute to knowledge management, and support efforts to establish, assess, and maintain team performance metrics.

What We Are Looking For
- Academic Credentials: Strong academic credentials including a J.D. degree.
- Professional Experience: 3 to 5 years of relevant experience at a law firm or in-house.
- Travel: Ability to travel domestically as needed (5-10% of the time).
- Bar Membership: Must be a current member in good standing of the Tennessee Bar, or a member in good standing of another state bar with eligibility for admission in Tennessee as in-house counsel.
