Legal.io is working with a leading fintech organization that is looking to engage an experienced legal operations associate full-time (40 hours per week) on a contract-basis for an initial 6 month term. Ideal candidates will have a background in Privacy and IP.

Engagement Details:

  • Technology: OneTrust, JIRA, GSuite, Asana, and LawVu
  • Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Duration: 6 months with strong potential to extend/convert
  • Pay: $55 - $75 / hour ($110,000 - $150,000 annualized)

Role and Qualifications:

  • Support our Chief Privacy Officer in managing global privacy compliance initiatives and protecting our intellectual property portfolio. You’ll work cross-functionally with Legal, Security, Marketing, Commercial Product, and Engineering Teams to help drive privacy initiatives, streamline workflows, and support our trademark and domain strategies.

What You’ll Do: Intellectual Property

  • Support trademark and copyright portfolio management, including filings, renewals, and docket management.
  • Coordinate with outside counsel on global IP prosecution, enforcement, and oppositions.
  • Assist in reviewing marketing collateral, product naming, and branding for IP clearance and compliance.
  • Maintain internal IP registers and support the development of IP-related policies and guidance.

Privacy and Data Protection

  • Maintain records of processing activities (RoPAs), data protection impact assessments (DPIAs), and vendor data protection agreements (DPAs).
  • Manage privacy processes in NerdWallet’s privacy technology platform, One Trust.
  • Support compliance with global privacy laws such as GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and other evolving regulations.
  • Draft and update privacy policies, procedures, and internal training documentation.
  • Partner with the CPO to address privacy-related requests and regulatory inquiries.

Project Management:

  • Implement best practices in legal project management for IP and privacy initiatives.
  • Manage workflows by utilizing JIRA, GSuite, Asana, and LawVu, to enhance efficiency.
  • Support ad hoc projects in legal operations as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of paralegal experience, preferably in privacy and/or intellectual property law.
  • Experience with privacy frameworks (GDPR, CCPA) and IP law fundamentals
  • Strong understanding of IP and privacy processes
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across diverse teams.
  • Proficiency with legal technology tools, including JIRA, OneTrust, GSuite, and matter management platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively under deadlines.
  • Familiarity with OneTrust
  • Experience supporting privacy compliance initiatives or managing privacy-related projects.
