This full-time, exempt position reports to the General Counsel and is based on-site at SRM Concrete’s corporate headquarters in Tennessee. The attorney will provide day-to-day labor and employment counsel across the company’s nationwide operations, ensuring that HR, Workers’ Compensation, FMLA/ADA, and Safety teams receive timely, business-focused legal guidance that aligns with SRM Concrete’s strategic and operational objectives.

The role encompasses comprehensive labor-relations support, including the interpretation and administration of collective-bargaining agreements, guidance on union strategy, representation in grievance and arbitration proceedings, and management of matters before the National Labor Relations Board. In addition, the attorney will direct impartial internal investigations into allegations of harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and other workplace misconduct, delivering clear findings and recommending corrective measures that mitigate risk and promote a respectful work environment.

Collaboration with outside counsel is integral to the position. The attorney will oversee employment- related litigation and administrative proceedings, such as EEOC charges, wage-and-hour claims, OSHA citations, and workers’ compensation appeals, by setting strategy, managing budgets, coordinating discovery, and maintaining consistent communication between SRM leadership and external firms. The attorney will also monitor federal, state, and local employment laws, translate legislative and regulatory developments into practical policies, and draft or update handbooks, standard operating procedures, and training materials that support compliance and operational efficiency.

Success in the role requires a Juris Doctor from an accredited law school, active licensure in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (with Tennessee admission or eligibility for in-house practice preferred), and a minimum of five years of concentrated labor and employment experience. Demonstrated capability in union matters, litigation management, workplace investigations, and multi-state compliance is essential. The attorney must possess superior written and verbal communication skills, the judgment to balance legal risk with business objectives, and the confidence to advise personnel at all levels—from front-line supervisors to the executive team. Familiarity with concrete, construction, or manufacturing environments are advantageous but not mandatory.

Although the position is primarily office-based, limited travel may be required on an as-needed basis to support investigations, proceedings, or training initiatives. This description is not exhaustive; the attorney may be called upon to assist with additional legal matters outside the labor and employment scope as business needs evolve. SRM Concrete is committed to equal employment opportunity and provides competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and professional development support.
