Labor and Industrial Relations Commission

Annual Salary Range: $110,000.00 - $115,000.00

The Missouri Labor and Industrial Relations Commission is a higher authority that reviews workers’ compensation and unemployment compensation cases, as well as tort victims’ compensation fund appeals, prevailing wage objections, and postsecondary degree hiring appeals. The Commission provides a team environment and small office atmosphere.

What You Will Do

  • Report directly to and advise the Commissioners
  • Manage a team of licensed attorneys
  • Assign and monitor cases among the staff attorneys
  • Analyze and summarize evidence
  • Conduct legal research
  • Draft legal memoranda, recommendations, proposed orders, and decisions for Commissioners
  • Proofread awards and orders
  • Assist with oral arguments
  • Provide guidance and advice on Sunshine Law matters
  • Draft fiscal note responses to proposed legislation
  • Draft and review proposed regulations
  • Answer legal and procedural questions posed by Commissioners and staff
  • Respond to inquiries from the parties and the public

All You Need For Success

Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensed to practice law in the state of Missouri
  • Member of The Missouri Bar in good standing

Desired Attributes

  • Familiarity with Missouri administrative law and process
  • Managerial experience
  • Excellent academic credentials
  • Excellent analytical, legal research, and writing skills
  • Prior knowledge of Missouri workers’ compensation and/or unemployment law preferred
  • Prior experience with Sunshine Law matters, including meetings and records
  • High level of professionalism and good judgment
  • Trustworthy with confidential information
  • Effective time management skills and ability to prioritize multiple projects
  • Enjoy writing
  • Self-motivation, critical thinking, and creativity
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize computer software, including Westlaw, Microsoft 365, and Adobe Acrobat
