In-House Counsel for IP Litigation
About the role
We’re hiring an experienced IP litigator to manage a trademark dispute in-house. You’ll run the matter day-to-day, coordinate outside counsel, and keep the case on schedule and on budget. The suit is in discovery with depositions scheduled and critical deadlines through the remainder of 2025.
What you’ll do
Own case strategy, workstreams, and calendars; keep leadership aligned on risk, exposure, and next steps.
Manage and direct outside counsel; allocate work to control spend without compromising quality.
Lead discovery: ESI protocols, search terms, privilege review/logs, subpoenas, protective orders.
Prepare for and (as appropriate) take/defend depositions; draft and edit motions, briefs, and supporting declarations.
Coordinate experts (selection, engagement, reports, Daubert prep).
Handle TTAB status/strategy and handoffs when activity resumes.
Drive settlement analysis and negotiation strategy; prepare mediation/arbitration materials as needed.
What you bring
7+ years of successful IP litigation experience
Hands-on discovery and deposition experience; comfort with ESI tools (e.g., Relativity/Logikcull).
Strong drafting chops (TRO/PI briefing, MSJ, discovery motions).
Experience managing outside counsel and litigation budgets.
Bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction; ability to obtain pro hac vice in N.D. Illinois (Illinois admission a plus).
Familiarity with TTAB practice and brand protection (domain disputes/ACPA) is a plus.
Comfortable operating in a highly regulated industry with compressed deadlines.
Compensation & term
Market rates + stock options
Fixed term: 18–24 months (full-time), with potential to extend/convert based on business needs.
Location
Flexible/remote within the U.S., with periodic travel for depositions, hearings, and mediation as needed.
