Posted Nov 19 Full TimeOn SiteNew Jersey The Senior Compliance Manager plays a vital role in supervising onsite compliance for Consumer Packaged Goods (“CPG”) operations in the Northeast Region. Qualified candidates will have several years of experience as a regulatory compliance leader in the cannabis industry, with direct expertise in CPG compliance and regulatory oversight in CT, MA, PA, MD, and NJ.
A demonstrated track record implementing and maintaining a complex compliance program for CPG facilities, including developing standard operating procedures and leading internal audits, is required.
The ideal candidate must possess strong organizational skills, use analytical skills to solve complex problems within tight deadlines, and work independently while collaborating across departments like Legal, Government Affairs, Marketing, Operations, and Finance.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Create and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs), internal processes, and compliance training programs for CPG operations and staff.
- Develop internal audit procedures for all CPG business entities across different states and localities, ensuring compliance with OSHA, cGMP, relevant CFR provisions, and state cannabis regulations.
- Perform regular, random internal audits of CPG operations and compile written reports for senior management.
- Ensure proper tracking of inventory and waste using various seed-to-sale software programs (BioTrack, METRC, MJ Freeway), and support the integration of seed-to-sale data with ERP and other compliance systems.
- Assist in preparing for facility inspections, government regulatory investigations, and external audits.
- Review government audit findings and develop written corrective action plans.
- Assist in taking remedial actions to close any gaps in facility operation compliance and reduce future risks.
- Draft official communications and assist with responses to government agencies and regulatory bodies.
- Collaborate with security vendors and the IT department to ensure facility floor plans are accurate and current.
- Review and approve packaging and label designs to ensure they meet state-specific requirements and federal standards.
- Ensure that record-keeping, security, and employee safety requirements comply with state and federal regulations.
- Monitor updates to cannabis laws, regulations, and industry guidance in CT, MA, PA, MD, NJ, and municipalities within those states; revise SOPs and training accordingly.
- Assist with preparing, drafting, and submitting license applications, renewals, amendments, and other regulatory filings in CT, MA, PA, MD, and NJ.
- Assist with responses to Requests for Information (RFIs), including drafting narratives, gathering required documents, and coordinating input from different teams.
- Assist with due diligence and compliance efforts for new facility launches, acquisitions, and expansions.
- Monitor competitive and regulatory environments to guide market entry strategies.
- Develop and deliver training programs on compliance, safety, and regulatory requirements for staff and management.
- Act as a subject matter expert for the Northeast region and advise leadership on emerging risks and regulatory trends.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years old to apply.
- Bachelor’s degree required; an advanced degree in law, regulatory affairs, or a related field is preferred.
- 3-5 years of minimum CPG compliance experience in the cannabis industry.
- Experience with seed-to-sale software programs such as METRC, BioTrack, MJ Freeway, etc., required.
- Proven success in preparing license applications, regulatory submissions, and RFP/RFI responses.
- Strong knowledge of cannabis regulations in CT, MA, PA, MD, NJ, as well as OSHA, cGMP, and relevant sections of the CFR.
Travel
- This position requires regular travel between facilities throughout the Northeast Region (50-60%).
