Duties and Responsibilities

Primary

  • Document preparation:
    • Assist in drafting and proofreading legal documents such as contracts, pleadings, and memos.
  • Legal research:
    • Conduct preliminary legal research and summarize findings for attorney / paralegal review.
  • Case management:
    • Organize and maintain physical and digital case files, prepare exhibits for meetings, and track deadlines.
  • Administrative support:
    • File legal documents with courts and administrative agencies and help with general case preparation.
  • Client and witness communication:
    • Communicate with attorneys, internal teams, and vendors to gather information.
  • Confidentiality:
    • Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to legal protocols.
Secondary

  • Other duties as assigned

Working Conditions

  • Job is performed in a typical office environment, but is subject to time pressures and constraints, and is often dependent on input from others.
  • Occasional overtime and travel may be required.

Minimum Qualification

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required; intentions of attending law school.

Experience

  • Customarily has 0-2 years of relevant experience. Must be willing to make a two-year commitment

Special Knowledge

  • Strong research and analytical skills: Ability to conduct thorough research and critically analyze legal texts. Familiarity with legal citation: Knowledge of legal citation formats, such as the Bluebook, is a plus.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with legal databases: Experience with platforms like Westlaw and LexisNexis is often required.

Attributes

  • Excellent writing and communication skills: Capable of writing clear, professional legal documents and communicating findings effectively. Attention to detail: A high level of accuracy is critical for legal work. Time management: Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

Qualifications

  • Confidentiality: Must maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive legal information. Flexibility to work outside regular business hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.

The full time base annual salary for this position in the New York market is expected to range between $60,000 - $70,000. Please note that the actual compensation may vary from posting based on geographic location, work experience, education and/or skill level. The posted salary is the range Vinson & Elkins in good faith believes to be the possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting.
