Silver Bay is seeking a talented Attorney to join our legal team. This position is based in Anchorage, Alaska and a fully remote schedule may be available to the right candidate. Remote employees will be required to travel on a regular schedule. Anchorage, Alaska is the preferred location for this position.
General Function
Silver Bay’s Attorney will support the company’s legal and business objectives by providing advice on a wide range of corporate matters, with a strong emphasis on regulatory compliance. This position requires a proactive, solution-oriented professional with excellent analytical skills and business acumen to navigate complex legal issues and mitigate risk.
Major Activities (Typical Duties/Responsibilities)
- Ensure that business is conducted in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and company policies and procedures to minimize liability exposure.
- Responsible for day-to-day legal matters including but not limited to government contracting, employment law, and regulatory compliance matters.
- Represent Silver Bay at hearings; bring cases before hearing boards and regulatory agencies; examines witnesses and argues facts of the case in relations to points of law, case law, and legal precedent.
- Conduct legal research; gather and compile legal instruments and documents; identify witnesses, records, and other information required to present cases; prepare and present legal documents and analysis as required.
- Provide legal support to General Counsel for a variety of corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions (M&A), financing arrangements, and strategic partnerships, including conducting due diligence.
- Manage special projects as assigned by General Counsel.
- Draft, review, and support negotiation of a broad range of commercial contracts and legal documents, such as lease, non-disclosure, customer, vendor, and licensing agreements.
- Monitor, research, and advise on new and existing laws and regulations impacting the company.
- Assist in the management and protection of the company's IP portfolio.
- Perform other duties as appropriate and as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Understand Silver Bay’s mission, values and strategic focus areas and incorporate knowledge into daily activities.
- Knowledge of State of Alaska statutes, rules, administrative orders, policies and procedures, and applicable Federal rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of Federal Procurement Regulations, and other government Agency procurement supplements.
- Strong business acumen and an ability to provide practical, strategic legal advice.
- Communicate clearly in writing and orally, with an emphasis on the presentation of material in a meaningful manner to the ultimate decision maker.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff, affiliated-company employees as well as outside business associates; exhibit a professional manner in dealing with others.
- Conceptualize, analyze and apply knowledge of legal principles.
- Research and organize technical information with attention to accuracy and detail.

Minimum Qualifications
- D. from an ABA accredited law school
- Admitted to the Alaska Bar Association
- Minimum of three years of relevant experience as a licensed attorney
- Strong contract negotiation, legal writing, and risk assessment skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in and knowledge of the commercial fishing industry
