Defense Litigation Paralegal

Posted Jan 28 One of Manhattan's leading law firms is seeking a Trial Paralegal to join our New York, NY office. This talented individual will be responsible for assisting attorneys in our Mass Torts and Product/General Liability practice groups. You will THRIVE in this role if you have:
- 3-5+ years of trial experience in defense litigation practice areas (required)
- Paralegal certificate (required)
- Bachelor's degree (preferred)
- Notary Public (preferred)
- Exceptional oral and written communication, including excellent spelling, grammar, punctuation, form, and style
- Proficiency with MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, with expertise in creating TOCs, TOAs and applying styles
- Excellent multitasking and time management abilities
- Superior client service and listening skills for anticipating needs of clients and attorneys
- Ability to take ownership of tasks and work independently to complete them
The Paralegal will be preparing cases for trial, from inception, and will actively participate in depositions, mediations, expert consultation, settlement conferences, arbitrations and trials.
- Review records, manage and meet discovery deadlines
- Utilize spreadsheets to manage and update case activity to assist attorneys with case monitoring and client reporting
- Create and update case management spreadsheets to track medical records, discovery requests and responses and settled/discontinued actions
- Process authorizations and compile medical records, photographs, and other fact investigative material to be analyzed and/or produced
- Utilize online ECF filing system on both state and federal court levels
- Prepare and service of various legal documents, i.e. subpoenas, discovery requests motions, etc., and execute follow-up regarding service and filing of documents
- Travel to court to file documents, attend hearings or assist at trial
- Proofread and assemble motions and accompanying exhibits
- Review, download, profile and distribute case notifications received electronically
- Communicate with clients, vendors, expert witnesses, opposing counsel, local counsel and counsel for co-defendants as needed
- Create table of contents and table of authorities
- Draft various pleadings, discovery and correspondence as directed
- Exhibit the ability to effectively multi-task, meet deadlines, and provide solutions in a fast-paced office setting, proactively and without excessive supervision
- Demonstrate good organizational skills for prioritizing workload

- Are able/willing to work in the office at least 3 days a week
