Position: Legal Expert
Type: Independent Contractor
Compensation: $80–$100/hour
Location: Remote
Duration: 4+ months
Commitment: 10–20 hours/week
Role Responsibilities
- Draft and review prompts involving legal reasoning, statutory interpretation, case analysis, and procedural workflows.
- Evaluate and revise AI-generated responses to ensure legal accuracy, clarity, and alignment with professional standards.
- Develop variants of prompts based on style, instruction-following, and user personas (e.g., lawyer vs. layperson).
- Identify examples likely to expose failures in model reasoning or content handling.
- Collaborate asynchronously with Mercor’s research coordination team as needed.
Qualifications
Must-Have
- J.D. or equivalent legal degree from a top institution.
- 2+ years of experience practicing law or in a legal academic/research setting.
- Expertise in one or more areas such as constitutional law, contracts, criminal procedure, or administrative law.
- Exceptional analytical writing skills and familiarity with legal argument structure.
Preferred
- Experience in legal education or content development.
Compensation & Legal
- Paid weekly via Stripe Connect.
- Classified as an independent contractor.
