Patent Attorney – Associate (Chemical Engineering)

Overview
We are seeking an associate-level Patent Attorney with 3–5 years of experience and a strong background in Chemical Engineering to join our team. The ideal candidate will work closely with inventors and clients across a range of industries to protect cutting-edge technologies through high-quality patent prosecution and related IP services.
Responsibilities
- Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications, with an emphasis on chemical, materials, and process-based technologies
- Conduct invention disclosures and collaborate with inventors to develop patent strategies aligned with business goals
- Respond to Office Actions and communicate with patent examiners
- Perform freedom-to-operate, patentability, and validity analyses
- Assist with IP due diligence, portfolio management, and strategic counseling
- Support patent litigation matters, post-grant proceedings, and licensing efforts as needed
- Stay current on developments in patent law and relevant technologies
Technical Focus Areas (may include)
- Chemical processes and formulations
- Materials science and polymers
- Specialty chemicals and industrial chemistry
- Energy, catalysis, or electrochemical systems
- Pharmaceuticals, biotech, or chemical manufacturing (as applicable)
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field
- Admission to at least one U.S. state bar (or eligibility to waive in)
- Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
- 3–5 years of experience in patent prosecution, preferably at a law firm or in-house IP department
- Strong technical writing and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple matters and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Chemical Engineering or related discipline
- Experience with international patent prosecution
- Exposure to IP strategy, portfolio development, or client counseling
- Prior experience working directly with corporate or research clients
