Lockton Affinity, a series of Lockton Companies, located in Overland Park, KS is looking to add a Compliance Counsel role to support the Affinity business. We’re searching for an experienced attorney with excellent knowledge of contract and compliance law related to the insurance industry. This role will provide general and industry-specific compliance guidance and support related to state laws and regulations impacting Lockton Affinity’s business operations.
Your Responsibilities
- Provide prompt, practical compliance and technical guidance and support to executive and senior leaders.
- Work with overall US legal, risk, and compliance team and coordinate on strategy and risk appetite.
- Effectively communicate findings and recommendations clearly, succinctly, and in plain English.
- Manage complex compliance assignments, including operational compliance reviews, industry regulation(s) compliance reviews, and other routine compliance related services.
- Oversee and keep stakeholders informed of tactical compliance needs of the business, including, but not limited to, form updates, rate changes, tax changes, declination management, state notice requirement, regulatory audits, etc.
- Build strong relationships with internal leaders, other Associates and external business partners
- Lead the development of creative, strategic, proactive, and technically accurate compliance guidance for both day to day operations and special situations.
- As needed, actively participate in business partner and client contract negotiations, client and prospect meetings, gather information and help
develop strategy and responses on behalf of the business.
- Keep abreast of developments in the field to maintain technical, professional expertise.
Qualifications
- A law degree and experience as an attorney in contract law and insurance compliance in a law firm, corporate law department, or combination of both.
- Significant experience with corporate contracts and compliance with insurance industry regulations, laws, rules, etc.
- Strong writing, public speaking, and relationship skills, including the ability to effectively work with others and support our executive team, sales professionals and business leaders.
- The ability to work quickly under pressure, and to distill complex concepts to their essence so that clients and internal teams may understand the concepts and apply them.
- The ability to foster and maintain good, cooperative and effective working relationships.
- This position requires support of clients of the firm, and of internal associates who work under demanding timelines, and often with limited
knowledge of contract and compliance matters.
- A pleasant, service-oriented attitude, and ability to communicate complex concepts in a practical, common-sense manner, is critical.
- Strong legal research background.
