Why You’ll Love This Position

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) exists to promote and protect the health and wellness of Missouri citizens. This position provides legal guidance to DHSS programs and will handle a variety of responsibilities, with opportunities to emphasize practice areas that interest the attorney. Pay is commensurate with experience.

The salary indicated represents a base pay rate. If the individual selected or the position is eligible for a pay differential (e.g., shift, security, or years of service), it will be added to the total compensation in your paycheck. A pay differential does not raise your base pay.

  • Represent DHSS in circuit courts and hearings tribunals
  • Assist with Administrative Rulemaking
  • Pursue guardianships for adults
  • Represent DHSS in employee disqualification matters
  • Review contracts and Memorandums of Understanding, data governance, and AI related issues
  • Provide other legal services as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current member of the Missouri Bar in good standing
  • Able to travel in-state to circuit courts; overnight travel is rare, but required on occasion
  • Experience with state procurement utilizing federal funding, human resources, data governance, and/or administrative law is preferred but not required.

The State of Missouri offers an excellent benefits package that includes a defined pension plan, generous amounts of leave and holiday time, and eligibility for health insurance coverage. Your total compensation is more than the dollars you receive in your paycheck. To help demonstrate the value of working for the State of Missouri, we have created an interactive Total Compensation Calculator. This tool provides a comprehensive view of benefits and more that are offered to prospective employees. The Total Compensation Calculator and other applicant resources can be found here.
