Position Summary

As Managing Senior Legal Counsel, you will lead a team of 6 attorneys that provide primary legal support for the CVS Health pharmacy benefit management, Healthcare Services business. This will include providing strategic legal advice to internal business partners with respect to client engagements, healthcare programs and services, and healthcare regulations and laws. You will proactively and collaboratively work with business partners and other attorneys on a wide variety of contract and compliance matters.

You will be expected to develop a keen understanding of the business and operational goals of assigned internal clients and work diligently to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients at all levels of the organization.

Role

As part of the Legal team, you will work with a dynamic in-house legal department and play a key role in supporting a wide variety of business initiatives, including:

  • Advising internal business clients with respect to the application of federal and state laws and regulations to the business activities of CVS Caremark.
  • Undertaking legal research and providing legal expertise on health care programs and services and company-wide initiatives;
  • Providing daily risk-management support for assigned businesses.
  • Work collaboratively with Client Account Management, Proposals, Finance, Compliance, Government Affairs, Privacy and other business and operational stakeholders to ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws and regulation in connection with a variety of projects and initiatives.
  • Identify legal and business risks and provide solutions to internal business partners that balance legal risks and business objectives and take an active role in driving projects to a final result.
  • Manage outside counsel and support internal stakeholders to protect company assets, mitigate risk, and optimize operational performance.
  • Supporting review of product portfolios and marketing materials and member/customer/provider communications pertaining to assigned areas.
  • Support the drafting, review and negotiation of contracts for a wide variety of engagements.

Required Qualifications

  • 10 + years of experience as an attorney with working knowledge of healthcare laws and regulations, the False Claims Act, and the Federal Anti-Kickback Statute.
  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills
  • Experience advising a health care services organization.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities within deadlines without significant direct supervision.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Lead and influence others and while working collaboratively at all levels with internal and external parties.
  • Licensed to practice law and current, active member in good standing of a state bar.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with the laws and regulations that impact pharmacy and prescription benefit management services, including ERISA, HIPAA, Consolidated Appropriations Act, Medicare, Medicaid, and various other Federal and State laws and regulations.
  • Experience identifying business and legal risk while providing solutions to balance legal issues with business objectives.
  • Experience managing outside counsel and consultants.
  • Hybrid Model (in office Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday).

Pay Range

The Typical Pay Range For This Role Is

$175,100.00 - $334,750.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
