The Senior Paralegal reports directly to an Associate General Counsel or Assistant General Counsel. The Senior Paralegal will have exceptional knowledge and notable experience in the following areas of law: litigation, personal injury, real estate, and commercial transactions. In addition, the Senior Paralegal will materially support additional attorneys practicing in different substantive areas of the law wherein the Senior Paralegal’s skillsets and experience will be an asset to the fast paced, deadline driven, multi-faceted environment of the Legal Department. Knowledge and experience in marketing and advertising law, including FTC regulations, considered a plus.


The Senior Paralegal, under the supervision of the hiring attorney and via their interaction and experience with the work of the multiple attorneys and the other paralegals in the department, will train new paralegals and create processes and protocols which achieve efficiencies for the Legal Department and applicable business units.


The Senior Paralegal will independently meet with business owners, review, analyze, and draft legal and business documents. Although the Senior Paralegal’s legal work will be conducted under the supervision of an attorney, the Senior Paralegal will be expected to function independently on many matters and have the insight and experience regarding when to escalate any and all material issues to the attention of an attorney.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in-house counsel in all aspects of managing legal issues efficiently and timely, including legal research and collecting information across designated business units to assist in legal analysis, documentation and drafting.
  • Manage personal injury claims by gathering facts and evidence, reviewing incident reports and medical records, coordinating with insurers and outside counsel, and managing claim files and litigation calendars. Prepare and respond to discovery, draft routine legal documents and settlement materials, and ensure compliance with internal reporting and risk management procedures.
  • Manage the drafting of real estate transactions, primarily lease documents such as renewal letters, memorandum of lease, lease amendments, estoppel certificates, and subordination and nondisturbance agreements, from beginning to end with oversight by Real Estate Attorney.
  • Manage disputes involving leases, property damage, construction, zoning, and landlord-tenant issues by reviewing leases and related documents, and coordinating with internal stakeholders, landlords, property managers, and outside counsel.
  • Communicate regularly with internal business counterparts to assist in providing legal counsel, investigate factual claims internally, or resolve legal issues and disputes.
  • Manage and track critical contractual documents, tasks, timelines, and deadlines, including a Smartsheet database. Transmit documentation and information within Legal as well as to other departments, outside counsel, and third parties.
  • Manage legal document management systems (i.e., case or contract management systems) and other projects, as assigned. Participate in training new Coworkers in the legal department, and training on new technologies or processes, as needed.
  • Assist with retaining, managing and coordinating with outside counsel. Track case deadlines and budgets.


Education & Credentials:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Notary Public and/or Remote Online Notary Public (required)
  • State Bar or ABA-approved paralegal certification (preferred)

Experience:

  • 7+ years of related paralegal experience
  • Minimum 3 years in a law firm or corporate legal department
  • Substantive experience in:
  • Litigation (including personal injury and real estate)
  • Real estate transactions
  • Commercial transactions
  • Additional consideration for experience with marketing and advertising compliance, including FTC regulations
