Job Location: This position will be located at 205 Jefferson St., Jefferson City, MO 65101.
- Provide legal advice to department divisions and offices, including the Office of Childhood regarding the development, implementation, interpretation and/or application of childhood related law, regulation, policy, and procedures.
- Assist the Chief Counsel in advising the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education on all significant activity regarding federal and state statutes, legislation, regulation, proposed legislation of interest to the department.
- Represent the department at administrative hearings related to department programs.
- Review the department guidance documents and published materials for compliance with federal and state law.
- Review contracts related to department programs and services.
- Act as a resource for orders of rulemaking such as drafting and filing questions related to administrative rules.
- Manage and coordinate Sunshine Law requests and other record requests for department programs, including emails and records searches, tracking, and meeting deadlines.
- Act as a resource for records retention management and related questions.
- Assist in providing legal guidance on human resource matters, including reviewing policies and procedure and assisting with investigations.
- Assist the department by researching and responding to internal and external inquiries relating to case law, legislation, regulations, and federal and state statutes.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduated from an accredited law school with Juris Doctorate.
- Member of the Missouri Bar in good standing or able to attain a license to practice law in the state of Missouri within six months of being hired.
