Job Location: This position will be located at 205 Jefferson St., Jefferson City, MO 65101.

This position in the field of special education primarily providing support to Legal Services on the development and coordination of policy, legal issues, and regulations affecting statewide special education programs.

  • Support the investigation process, conduct legal research, and review decisions related to complaints of noncompliance of local school districts and state agencies pursuant to Part B and Part C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
  • Process Sunshine Law requests.
  • Develop and provide training and technical assistance to Office of Special Education staff including the state operated programs (Missouri Schools for the Severely Disabled, Missouri School for the Blind, and Missouri School for the Deaf).
  • Help draft and review administrative rules, policies, and guidance of the Office of Special Education including those of the state operated programs.
  • Support General Counsel in the management of responses to the Office for Civil Rights, Missouri Commission on Human Rights, and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission complaints against the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education or the state operated programs.
  • Provide support to General Counsel, State Operated Programs, and Legal Services.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.
  • Demonstrate regular, reliable, and engaged attendance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree, one to three years of experience, and a paralegal certification.

OR

  • Five or more years of experience in a legal environment.
