Job Purpose

The Senior Paralegal is responsible for managing the Company’s litigation docket which includes consumer complaints, subpoenas, attorney demand letters, arbitration demands, and single plaintiff and class litigation in areas including bankruptcy, commercial, and consumer finance. This role supports customers, internal and external counsel, and coworkers across all lines of business and geographic regions. Additional duties include legal project management, compliance review, and mentoring of junior legal staff.

Key Responsibilities

Litigation Management and Legal Support

  • Manage a high-volume nationwide litigation docket (including small claims, arbitration, class actions).
  • Perform case intake via Legal Tracker™, apply litigation holds, and conduct all aspects of claim investigations.
  • Draft case assessment briefs outlining account history, legal issues, policy violations, and settlement recommendations.
  • Coordinate and assist with deposition and trial preparation, organize exhibits, and prepare witnesses.
  • Represent company at arbitration hearings before the AAA, as needed.
  • Support claim settlements including negotiation, preparation, execution, and finalization of settlement agreements and finalizing satisfaction of settlement terms.
  • Respond to customer bankruptcy filings and coordinate with debtor’s counsel.

Consumer Claims & Regulatory Complaints

  • Receive, process, investigate and prepare formal responses to complaints received by the BBB, Attorney General, and regulatory agency complaints to maintain the company’s reputation.
  • Investigate claims, gather supporting documents, draft responses, and collaborate with compliance on emerging trends.
  • Respond to and manage state and federal agency audits and investigations; facilitate remediation efforts as necessary.

Subpoena & Legal Records Management

  • Handle all incoming consumer subpoenas including intake, document compilation, redaction, notarization, and timely production.
  • Ensure records are in compliance with court orders and internal procedures.

Legal Guidance & Internal Support

  • Serve as the first point of legal contact for store locations and internal departments (tax, fleet, HR, social media, etc.).
  • Provide legal guidance on TCPA, FDCPA, FCRA, UDAAP, and civil procedures nationwide.
  • Advise on small claims filing and defense strategies.

Process Improvements & Reporting

  • Continuously improve legal procedures for greater efficiency and compliance.
  • Prepare regular litigation metrics and reports for internal stakeholders.
  • Monitor potential legal risks and flag issues proactively.

Team Leadership & Mentoring

  • Lead and mentor legal assistants, delegate tasks, provide training, and assess performance.
  • Provide SOP training on docketing systems, litigation support, and compliance tracking.

Cross-functional Support

  • Assist with projects from departments such as Franchising, Compliance, Spend Management Organization, and Coworker Relations as needed.

Job Requirements

  • Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program.
  • College degree in legal Studies, Business, or related field a plus.
  • 5–10 years of related legal experience, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Legal Tracker™ preferred.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
