Discovery Litigation Counsel (Contract – Full-Time, Remote)

Location: Remote

Commitment: 40 hours/week

About the Role

A leading global automotive company is seeking an experienced Discovery Litigation Counsel to support complex litigation and government investigations. This attorney will manage discovery across a broad litigation portfolio, coordinate investigative efforts, collaborate with outside counsel, and help drive litigation strategy.

This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented litigator with strong discovery, e-discovery, and investigative experience who thrives in a fast-paced in-house environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage discovery for a wide range of litigation matters, including class actions and product liability cases.
  • Conduct factual investigations, including interviews with internal employees and subject-matter experts.
  • Oversee and collaborate with outside counsel on discovery strategy, budgeting, workflows, and performance.
  • Review discovery responses, briefs, and filings, including motions to compel and motions to seal.
  • Coordinate responses to government investigations, regulatory inquiries, subpoenas, and enforcement actions across federal, state, and international agencies.
  • Develop and manage the company’s e-discovery strategy, protocols, and processes to ensure defensible, efficient handling of ESI.
  • Evaluate, adopt, and optimize e-discovery tools and technologies (e.g., RelativityOne/RelOne).
  • Advise internal stakeholders on litigation risks, discovery obligations, and best practices for preservation and litigation readiness.

 

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Experience handling litigation matters in both federal and state courts.
  • Strong understanding of discovery and e-discovery processes, standards, and obligations.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in all written work.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, especially for resolving complex discovery issues.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple matters simultaneously.
  • Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills for working with internal business partners and legal colleagues.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Word.
  • Proficiency with Relativity and e-discovery tools.

Experience & Background

  • Minimum of 5+ years of litigation experience, including hands-on discovery responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision on significant matters.
  • Experience in automotive, manufacturing, or consumer products industries is a plus.

Education & Licensing

  • Juris Doctor (JD) required.
  • Must be a licensed attorney in at least one U.S. state.
