Locations: Remote (Open to Hybrid in Seattle or Los Angeles). If remote, candidates must reside and be admitted and in good standing to the State Bar in the following states: Alaska, Texas, Washington, Idaho, Illinois, Colorado, California, Wisconsin, New York, Arizona, Oregon, Washington D.C., Virginia or Maryland.
We are seeking an experienced Product Counsel to join our legal team for a fixed-term engagement of approximately 18 to 24 months. This role is ideal for a seasoned attorney with deep expertise at the intersection of technology, intellectual property, and emerging legal frameworks generative AI and platform liability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic legal guidance throughout the product lifecycle, from ideation to launch and iteration
- Advise cross-functional teams (product, engineering, policy, and business) on legal risks and compliance considerations
- Counsel on issues related to intellectual property, including licensing, ownership, and protection strategies
- Provide guidance on copyright, trademark, patent, and trade secret issues related to digital products and user-generated content.
- Navigate complex legal and regulatory landscapes related to generative AI technologies
- Assess and mitigate platform liability risks, including content moderation, user-generated content, and intermediary protections
- Support the development and implementation of internal policies, guidelines, and best practices
- Collaborate on global regulatory matters and emerging legislation impacting technology products
Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing
- 10+ years of relevant legal experience, with significant time spent in-house or advising technology companies
- Strong background in intellectual property and product counseling
- Demonstrated experience with generative AI technologies and related legal considerations
- Deep understanding of platform liability frameworks and regulatory trends
- Excellent judgment, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, evolving environment
Preferred:
- Experience with content platforms, social media, or streaming services.
- Familiarity with music licensing, UGC ecosystems, or creator economies.
- Knowledge of AI/ML-related IP issues and emerging technologies.
- Ability to navigate ambiguous situations and provide practical, business-oriented advice.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders.
