SUMMARY: We are seeking a Paralegal to assist the Office of General Counsel (OGC). The ideal candidate will work with the firm’s General Counsel, Assistant General Counsels and Conflicts and Business Intake Compliance Counsel (“Compliance Counsel”) by supporting the development and implementation of efficient workflow procedures and providing operational coordination and assistance. Members of the Office of General Counsel work as an integrated team with many other departments of the firm, including management, and they are seen as valued resources and trusted advisors to the partners, associates and staff of the firm.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist and support the firm-wide Compliance Program to minimize and manage risk.
- Assist with the implementation and maintenance of ethical screens via Intapp Walls.
- Perform first level review of Outside Counsel Guidelines on behalf of the Compliance team in Intapp Terms, according to predetermined standards; work with the Office of General Counsel on items requiring supplemental review.
- Assist with first level review of certain conflicts searches.
- Monitor emails that come to Compliance Counsel group and direct inquiries to the appropriate Office of General Counsel or New Business Intake team member.
- Assist with locating form waivers or prior draft waivers at request of Conflicts and Business Intake Compliance Counsel.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS :
- Draft, edit, and proofread cover letters, administrative memos, and other documents.
- Manage updates, corrections, and annual refresh of Firm policies.
- Index and summarize documents and files; assist in the maintenance of Office of General Counsel/Compliance document and policy libraries.
- Schedule meetings and trainings.
EXTENT OF CONTACT:
- This position requires a high degree of contact with:
- the firm’s General Counsel, Assistant General Counsels and Compliance Counsel;
- the firm’s Director of Office Services, Business Intake Risk and Compliance Director, Business Intake Manager, Conflicts Specialists and other business intake staff;
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s Degree required; 1-2 years of related experience preferred
- Strong organizational and planning skills, including the ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.
- Strong interpersonal skills necessary to permit effective communication in person, by e-mail and telephone with a diverse group of lawyers and staff.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and with others in a cooperative manner to accomplish position functions and participate in team efforts.
- Demonstrated ability to review and analyze large volumes of qualitative and numerical data in spreadsheets with sustained attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to perform basic factual research and factual analysis.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding office data and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Strong attention to detail, excellent spelling, grammar and punctuation skills.
- Knowledge of law firm compliance functions.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
