How This Position Supports The Department’s Vision

The General Counsel’s Office Bankruptcy Unit is looking for a professional, analytical and detail-oriented person to work under the supervision of the Unit’s Managing Counsel and Administrative Support Professional. The ideal candidate is organized, detail‑oriented, and comfortable managing a high‑volume caseload in a fast‑paced environment. This is a good job for someone with a genuine curiosity about the law who loves to learn new things.

Duties Performed To Support The Department’s Vision

  • Support the Unit’s two attorneys with all aspects of business and consumer bankruptcy cases
  • Open and monitor bankruptcy case files while managing a substantial case load
  • Prepare and electronically file claims on behalf of DOR in hundreds of bankruptcy cases throughout the country
  • Ensure that MDOR’s computer systems are timely updated in response to bankruptcy court activity
  • Communicate with chapter 7 trustees and other bankruptcy and business professionals concerning DOR’s claims
  • Research and perform account maintenance on business and individual tax database
  • Process documents and affidavits received from taxpayers and attorneys
  • Apply payments received to taxpayer accounts

Qualifications

  • Experience in professional office setting or legal environment
  • Detail oriented and excellent organization skills

  • Good communication skills
  • Experience with Revenue Premier (business tax or individual tax) preferred but not required
  • Associate degree, high school diploma or 2-4 years of experience in legal environment (Substitutions may be allowed)
