Position Overview

Our client is seeking a Collections Attorney to manage commercial debt recovery matters from early-stage outreach through litigation and post-judgment enforcement. This role is ideal for an attorney who can run files independently, communicate effectively with clients, and apply a strong working knowledge of applicable state and federal collections regulations.

Responsibilities Of The Collections Attorney

  • Manage the end-to-end collections process, including demand efforts, negotiations, and escalation to litigation when necessary.
  • Draft, review, and file pleadings, motions, and other litigation documents.
  • Appear in court as needed and handle case strategy, discovery, and settlement discussions.
  • Lead post-judgment enforcement efforts (including locating assets and pursuing enforcement remedies).
  • Maintain accurate case documentation, deadlines, and status updates.
  • Coordinate with internal partners (including Billing/Finance) to support collection strategy and reporting.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, and court staff.

Required Experience/Skills For The Collections Attorney

  • NJ and NY bar admission (required).
  • 3 - 6 years of experience in collections/debt recovery or related commercial litigation.
  • Proven ability to manage matters from intake through post-judgment collections.
  • Strong understanding of state and federal collections laws.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.

Preferred Experience/Skills For The Collections Attorney

  • Experience working closely with billing/finance teams or law firm collections operations.
  • Strong client service mindset and comfortable handling a high-volume desk.

Education Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
