A prominent organization in the insurance industry seeks a Compliance Manager to oversee regulatory adherence, manage filings and audit preparation, and enhance overall compliance processes. This role involves monitoring regulatory developments, coordinating filings across multiple jurisdictions, conducting audits and supporting corporate governance initiatives. The Compliance Manager plays a vital role in safeguarding the organization’s reputation by ensuring all operations align with relevant laws, regulations and internal policies. The position requires a strategic thinker with excellent communication skills to collaborate across departments and lead compliance efforts effectively.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the administrator for the company’s code of conduct hotline and ensure concerns are properly reported and investigated.
- Maintain the company’s web portal, oversee data management with third-party vendors and ensure reports of concern are processed accurately.
- Coordinate and submit all state regulatory filings including annual rate, rule, form filings, business entity filings with the Secretary of State, NAIC license/expansion filings, and corporate governance disclosures.
- Prepare responses to regulator inquiries and address objections to filings.
- Draft, review, and edit policy forms, endorsements, notices, and related correspondence for regulatory approval.
- Monitor the status of filings and update internal stakeholders on progress.
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop and maintain regulatory compliance policies and procedures.
- Lead the compliance committee, ensuring regular updates and maintenance of the compliance calendar.
- Stay informed on legal and regulatory changes and assess business impact to implement operational adjustments when necessary.
- Conduct regulatory research for various jurisdictions and support responses to regulatory inquiries, complaints, and market conduct investigations.
- Maintain logs and documentation related to compliance activities.
- Build and maintain relationships with industry associations and compliance groups to stay updated on trends and requirements.
- Perform regular compliance audits and risk assessments, addressing issues identified and escalating serious concerns appropriately.
- Assist in developing corrective action plans to address compliance deficiencies.
- Partner with IT to develop employee training programs related to data security.
- Participate in business continuity and records management initiatives to ensure compliance with security and operational standards.
- Conduct annual risk assessments and data security breach exercises to test and enhance organizational readiness.
- Support corporate governance activities, serving on teams related to emerging risks, data security and business continuity.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance or related field (preferred)
- Advanced degree or professional certifications such as ARM, ARC, ACP, CCP (preferred)
- 7+ years of professional experience in insurance operations and compliance or risk management
- 3+ years researching state insurance laws, regulations and facilitating state filings
- Experience managing regulatory filings with multiple jurisdictions
- Strong knowledge of insurance regulations in various state and federal jurisdictions
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to analyze complex regulatory requirements and implement compliant processes
- Proven experience leading compliance initiatives and collaborating with multiple stakeholders
