Assistant General Counsel (DO0AC0013-080726)
The Missouri Department of Mental Health is seeking to fill a vacancy for an Assistant General Counsel Labor and Employment Specialist position. This position is domiciled in Jefferson City, Missouri. Remote work options available up to four days in a five-day work week, following two months of successful orientation and on-boarding in-office.
The base salary offered for this position ranges from $80,000.00-$105,352.00 annually, commensurate with education and experience. If the selected candidate is eligible for a pay differential, such as retention pay, the total salary may exceed what is listed in this posting.
Responsibilities
This is a highly responsible position, reporting to the Department General Counsel. Responsibilities are advising facilities in labor and employment matters, including but not limited to:
- Advising on federal and state labor laws.
- Advising on employee discipline, employee leave and accommodation requests, and employee grievances.
- Review and drafting of employment related policies.
- Review and drafting of responses to federal and state agency inquiries, including EEOC, MCHR and Department of Labor inquiries, and representing the facility in such matters, including mediation.
- Advising on union matters and representing the facility in such matters, including arbitration.
- Advising and serving as liaison between the facility and trial counsel in employment litigation involving DMH facilities.
- Periodic travel may be required.
Experience in civil employment litigation and/or employment immigration visa legal matters, is preferred.
Qualifications Include
- Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law and a current license to practice law in the State of Missouri.
- Minimum five (5) years labor and employment law experience.
- Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Maintain a high standard of ethics and professionalism.
