The Opportunity :
Abbott is currently seeking an experienced transactional attorney to lead teams of in-house attorneys in acquisitions, divestitures, equity investments and other significant transactions for all Abbott businesses. Works closely with senior Abbott business leaders, members of Abbott’s Legal Division, Corporate Licensing & Acquisitions organization, and broad cross-functional teams.
This role can be located at Abbott’s headquarters in Abbott Park, Illinois or Chicago, Illinois (Willis Tower)
What You’ll Work On :
The successful candidate will possess demonstrated expertise in mergers and acquisitions. Experience with cross-border transactions is preferred.
The position’s core job responsibilities include :
- active involvement and supervising outside counsel in all aspects of acquisitions, divestitures and equity investments, including structuring transactions, performing due diligence, negotiating transactions, drafting agreements and advising internal constituents;
- anticipating and identifying issues, developing and evaluating alternatives and gaining stakeholder alignment for risk-balanced solutions;
- advising leadership on legal issues and collaborating with Abbott stakeholders, legal colleagues and outside counsel to drive desired business outcomes; and
- managing one or more lawyers and support staff
Required Qualifications :
- Possess a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school, demonstrate a strong academic background, and have, or be able to obtain, appropriate licensure to practice law in Illinois.
- 12+ years of experience in M&A in a top tier law firm and/or large multinational corporation
- Proven ability to lead attorneys and/or paralegals, and to perform successfully in cross-functional teams, with the ability to lead and mentor
- Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and exercise sound commercial and legal judgment
- Ability to independently handle highly complex matters with minimal supervision, and understand which issues to elevate to senior management and appropriate timing for doing so
- In addition to top-notch legal skills and a strong ethical center, excellent interpersonal, strategic thinking, communication and organizational skills

The base pay for this position is $190,000.00 – $380,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
