Lockheed Martin is looking to grow its legal team with its next Environment, Safety and Health (ESH) Lawyer. The ideal candidate will provide environmental, safety, and health (“ESH”) legal advice, counsel and service to Corporate ESH program and business area lawyers as needed. Conversant in federal environmental, safety and health law with the ability to react quickly to compliance issues from business locations both in the United States and in the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and other international locations. Able to research U.S. federal, state, local and international ESH and product/chemical safety laws quickly and thoroughly to provide compliance, liability, and business risk/opportunity advice. Has comprehensive knowledge of the U.S. federal Superfund law and its state counterparts to respond quickly to questions and concerns from the Corporate remediation staff. Can negotiate consent orders for environmental remediation sites and assess and respond to claims for natural resource damages. May oversee ESH-related corporate governance matters through participation in various Corporate ESH committees. May also oversee litigation of environmental and/or toxic tort claims. Responsible for retention, direction, and budgeting of outside counsel resources.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor from accredited law school, and must be admitted to practice law and a member in good standing in Washington, DC or one or more states.
  • Ten (10) or more years ESH legal experience with a corporation, law firm or governmental agency providing working knowledge of environmental, health and safety laws and regulations
  • Ability to easily interface with senior corporate and government executives and work with the corporation’s ESH in a team environment is essential.
Desired Skills:
  • Skilled in concise and precise verbal and written communication.
  • Experience with the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA/Superfund); the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA); the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) regulations; and the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).
  • Experience with environmental and toxic tort litigation.
  • Ability to work as a team member and to interact successfully with people at all levels within and outside of the organization, including in-house attorneys, business professionals and outside counsel.
  • Must be a motivated self-starter who can energize and collaborate with the team, take immediate responsibility for legal projects, and work in a fast-paced environment with a high volume of work
