As Senior Employment Counsel, you will play a key role in providing both strategic and tactical employment law advice and guidance to senior management and supporting Vroom’s culture and growth as we continue to scale our workforce as a public company. Because we are a small legal team, we also are seeking a flexible team player who can collaborate with other members of the legal team to support the day-to-day needs of the organization.
Act as a trusted business partner to provide advice and counsel to the People & Culture (HR) team and other leaders on a broad spectrum of employment matters, including employee relations, wage and hour issues, employee benefits, pay equity, workers’ compensation, leaves of absence, disability accommodations and privacy
Work with the People & Culture team to develop appropriate risk mitigation strategies on matters relating to hiring, retention, performance management, evaluation and promotion of employees
Collaborate with the company’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee and assist the organization on achieving diversity and inclusion goals
Ensure all policies and practices are compliant with legal requirements and regulations (e.g. EEO, EEA, CHRA, Affirmative Action, FLMA, FLSA, privacy and record-keeping); monitor for potential changes and ensure the organization is ready to respond
Advise the People & Culture team on internal investigations
Draft and maintain Vroom’s relevant employment policies and procedures that support business goals, mitigate risk, and align with the company’s culture and values, including the employee handbook and other employee compliance documents
Draft, negotiate and manage employment and consulting agreements
Advise the Compensation Committee of the company’s Board of Directors
Assist with drafting of Vroom’s proxy statement, particularly with respect to compensation and human capital disclosure
Assist with employment due diligence in connection with potential business acquisitions and support post-acquisition integration activities for completed transactions
Keep current on developments in labor and employment law and provide training and updates to cross-functional stakeholders as needed
Advise on immigration matters
Investigate and respond to federal and state administrative complaints, such as EEOC and DOL
Assist in the company’s efforts with regard to ESG initiatives
Manage employment litigation
Manage outside employment counsel.
